This is one of those games where the black hole bottom of the order produces 3 or 4 runs. I have a good feeling about this.
There was a great article in the Athletic a few weeks ago regarding Maldy, Diaz and their relationship, with each other and with the pitching staff.
If an opposing team looked at our lineup today for the first time and saw Singleton, Kessinger and Maldy in our lineup... they'd think we'd given up.
Nice do you have it? I hope that’s truly the case and it likely is. Just the stories about the Astros PR guys taking down tweets that offended Maldy or the stuff about him getting butt hurt when they were looking for free agent Cs. Ultimately though it’s not Maldy that keeps starting Maldy but Dusty
If it's paywalled, let me know https://theathletic.com/4708201/2023/07/21/yainer-diaz-pain-astros-catcher-heir/
Yeah but everyone played that way so it didn’t really matter, playing that way didn’t put you at a competitive disadvantage and it was kind of fun to watch. I like stolen bases and hit and runs. I just don’t like playing suboptimal strategy when other people are playing with a better strategy. Nba version would be if you decided to shoot 8 three pointers a game. You’d be bleeding points. But if everyone only shoots 8 three pointers a game the game is more fun.
