Albatross I was trying to give him grace with the back injury, but it's only 2 games old. If the Astros luck up on a Singleton resurgence, it will balance Abreu's terrible signing.
It will be great seeing Singleton aim for that short right field in Yankee Stadium during the postseason... but Yankees ain't making it to the postseason
The Astros either need to "fix" Abreu or see if they can relocate him. He is either hurt or psyched or something, but he is incredibly unproductive, and at the plate looks like he has never played before. Given his history, this is baffling. He has had almost the whole season to get "fixed."
I'm trying to look at teams that have time open at 1B/DH and could use a veteran in their locker room. Sadly, that's easier said than done. Alternatively, see if there's any other bad 2-yr contracts for players that we deem "fixable" - swap one bad deal for another.
Reminds me of when we ran Beltran out there 130 times in 2017 when he was clearly done, difference is there’s 2 more years of Abreu after this
Abreu was definitely bothered by something. I hope Singleton makes the most out of his opportunity. But, if the best lineup includes Abreu on the bench, he needs to man up and accept that.
Leon can play all 3 OF spots and 2B in a pinch but he would require a 40 man spot and Hensley doesn't.
I don’t know if Leon is any good or worth a look but… Bligh Madris was on the 40 Joe Perez was on the 40 Rylan Bannon is on the 40 David Hensley is on the 40 Grae Kessinger is on the 40 Corey Julks is on the 40 (Pitchers) Paredes, Kuhnel, Gage, Cousins are on the 40 It’s not a 40 man issue.
Abreu May just be having a lost season due to lingering injuries. Maybe he needs to take off the rest of August and get his body healthy; obviously he’s out of sync with his bat and 3 or 4 weeks at the end of the season may not be enough. Even though I’ll stoked about how good singleton has looked in the minors and up til now, an MVP caliber Abreu is still rather enticing and hopeful.
Love it when athletes let their pride win out over helping the team. Nothing like playing through injury all year because you're too ****ing stubborn to sit a few weeks or so.
Abreu will be productive, however, most here won't even notice as they'll wait for him to have a bad night again.
Agreed. It is selfish and stupid. Hurt the team, and your own stats. Abreu is either 1) too old and sucks 2) is lying to justify why he sucks or 3) injury is making him suck Chances are: injury is making him suck. Players don't typically fall off 200 OPS points over the summer without injury regardless of age. So it's actually a good thing he's injured. If not, he's an albatross. Get healthy and return being a productive player and justify his contact.
Abreu RBI pace (RBI to AB ratio, reads as an RBI every X ABs) 2014: 1:5.2 2015: 1:6.1 2016: 1:6.2 2017: 1:6.1 2018: 1:6.4 2019: 1:5.2 2020: 1:4.0 (MVP season) 2021: 1:4.8 2022: 1:8.0 2023: 1:6.3 His RBI pace is very similar to his 2015-2018 years, which were all solid seasons. If he had not missed time, he would be well on his way to yet another 100+ RBI season. In his last 60 games, his ratio is 1:4.6, better than every year except his MVP season. Just as a reference point to really hit home, Yuli Gurriel last season was 1:11.0, and this year with Miami he's an unbelievably bad 1:14.2. It's a well spent 19.5 million dollars.
