All of us hitting coaches wish you and all "just criticize guys" a good night as well. To criticize is the easiest thing in the world to do.
Thanks for the well wishes. * if you read my posts you would see that I am far from a "just criticize guy" In any event, in the end we all just want to talk and celebrate our fandom. The best to you and go Astros.
Definitely agree on mechanics. This isn't to say that coaches don't have blind spots, but these are usually macro scale type things.
I would say we got off on the wrong foot. If you wanted me to expand on my thoughts, just ask. I discourage taking a shot at people in hopes of discouraging them from commenting further. If you have nothing to contribute, then it's best to say nothing at all. Imo. __________ It's so late in the season and I'm sure the batting coaches have suggested many options to Abreu. Often it just confuses the batter and has him or her thinking too much while at the plate. This is why I wouldn't have him changing much. With exception of platooning him with Singleton after this Orioles series to give Abreu more rest..... I suggest the lighter bat. Heavier bat would be for the power and threat of hitting more HR's. But it ain't happening. He should just go with the lighter bat for increased bat (hand) speed and try to become that .300 hitter I believe he was last year. Plus a lighter bat might help him level his bat through the strike zone. He is dipping the head of the bat too much. Unless it's in his wheel house of lower inside quadrant; I don't expect a hit from Abreu. Unfortunately.
He would seem to be the type to hide an injury. It would explain why his results (and the expected numbers behind them) completely crashed out of nowhere after going along well for 2 months. Or maybe it's just an ugly slump and this is new and unrelated.
10-days IL might not be the worse thing for Abreu. Not bc I’m excited about Singleton but I want to see a healthy June Abreu come September and playoff.
A 3 week IL stint for Abreu starting today wouldn’t be a bad thing. Get him a chance to get out of a slump, get Singleton 15 games / 50 pa to see what he can do in an everyday role.
His .269 OPS over the last 7 days is beyond pitiful. Anything to get him out of the lineup is ok with me. An IL stint? Sounds good for everyone. McCormick and Bregman gave been pretty bad also. https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/name/hou/split/61/table/batting/sort/OPS/dir/desc
It looked like he was forcing everything up the middle. I have never seen so many dribblers right back up the middle.
Feels like Dusty played him and Maldy, the 2 oldest position players on the team...90% of games this season.
He’s so cooked, honestly the dude is a sub par defensive first baseman that hits worse than Jake Meyers. If he was even 10% below league average, you could justify running him out there thinking he’ll get his groove back. The power is just gone, he’s a contact singles guy that’s losing his ability to make contact.
Yet... people on Astros Twitter are arguing that Diaz shouldn't get reps at first because it detracts from him learning C and that he would be a subpar 1B despite... Dubon getting back-to-back starts at first out of nowhere despite never playing the position himself.
