Judge issues protective order on Donald Trump; warns him against 'inflammatory' comments

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan warned the former president against "inflammatory" statements regarding the case that accuses him of trying to steal the 2020 presidential election.

Chutkan also told Trump's lawyers that "your client’s defense is supposed to happen in this courtroom, not on the Internet."

“I will take whatever measures are necessary to safeguard the integrity of the case,” she said, citing concerns about harassment and intimidation of witnesses by Trump, who is running for president again in 2024.

I would have voted less than a day ... maybe even an hour.

What else is expected from the One Man Crime Wave who has never been held to account for his actions and who has zero impulse control?

How many chances will the judge give him until she does something about it? She seems like a hardo and the FTX guy just got sent to jail for using a VPN, so its no joke but he was out on bail and trump has no bail. Push comes to shove I don't see him being locked up (I would like that) but maybe I am wrong. His lawyers and business associates (he has no real friends) are probably sitting him down now and telling him to knock it off....he will for a bit and then he will go off at some point.............I want him to keep doing it with the threat that they will start this dam trial ASAP and that should scare the holy f*** out of him and his lawyers

The warning about "inflammatory comments" isn't part of the protective order, so far as I understand. The protective order says he can't share sensitive evidence he gets on discovery with the public. So he can call Pence a traitor on Twitter, for example, he just can't quote from Pence's deposition.

If I understand that correctly, I expect Trump will say things on Truth Docial that will irk the judge soon, but it'll steer clear of the protective order. Then he will step closer and closer to the line as he tries to leverage what he learns from discovery without doing something so obvious as to quote from it. But that process will take a few weeks.

You're right as to what the protective order covers but we know that Trump isn't very careful with sensitive material as in his recorded conversation where's hes waving around a national security document. I wouldn't put it beyond Trump to reveal material that is under the protective order.

Another strategy he might take is to find something particularly juicy in discovery and tweet it out. Judge will slap his hand but won't be able to put the toothpaste back in the tube. So, from Trump's perspective, the political benefit could outweigh the judicial cost.

Yes I can certainly see him doing that. At that point I don't think the judge will have any choice but to sanction him. I still think there are huge practical problems with actually jailing him but there may be no other option.

How about the judge letting Trump spend a long weekend in jail to get Trump’s attention?

Donald Trump slammed the judge presiding over his newest criminal case early Monday, testing her three-day-old warning that he refrain from “inflammatory” attacks against those involved in his case.

In a Truth Social post just before 1 a.m., Trump assailed U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan as “highly partisan” and “very biased and unfair,” citing as evidence
a statement she made during the sentencing of a woman who participated in the mob that breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“She obviously wants me behind bars,” Trump wrote.
