If your OL sucks so bad that you can't even put your rookie qb1 in a preseason game , then fold up shop and call it a season. Stroud is not Tom Brady on a team pushing for one last Superbowl. He needs reps, whether he struggles or shines. Reps on reps on reps.
Well... they also went up against backups and other guys who probably won't be in the NFL. Texans backups couldn't handle some of the Patriot starters. You can get those reps in joint practices etc. No point in developing bad habits when you are getting pressured and hit within two seconds each drop back. No QB not named Lamar Jackson could be successful in that situation....
I don't buy any of this. If your completely n00b QB1 develops bad habits it means either your coaches suck or you drafted the wrong player. For better or worse Stroud should play, at bare minimum, 50% of the preseason snaps.
"I'm glad CJ struggled. That way he can learn" 790 callers trying to sound smart and lying to themselves... lol It's very very early in his career and he can still be good (obviously), even be good THIS season.. but no Texan fan in their right mind should happy he struggled. I barely watched the game but the defense seems good, judging by the final score.
I'm fine with them not letting him play a bunch in yesterday's game. The Oline got overwhelmed, he got worked over, fine sit him down and let him stew on it. But he needs to play serious snaps in one of these games.
Is our coach also dumb? “DeMeco Ryans says [he] thought it was good for [Stroud] to make a mistake, "to make him pay" & to learn from it.” “DeMeco says there was “good” in him throwing that interception because it can be a learning experience.”
what was he supposed to say? "cj threw a pick, that was a mistake and he f*** up I'm disappointed in him he's probably gonna bust now"
My sentiments exactly I agree with you on CJ getting reps but if you're looking at him as being the starter, you need to be careful about injuries too. Its a Catch 22 position
Maybe Demeco hopes for 3 wins this season so the entire team learns "valuable" lessons. He was just being positive and motivative.
The D is going to be good this year! The only thing I want to see from CJ is progress from week to week, fix the previous mistakes (as there will be many) but he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and so far, a great work ethic. He is a rookie and I expect him to struggle, I just want to see progress, this is a marathon and not a sprint.
They're not wrong in that it's better to have your mistakes in preseason. He's a rookie, the bed ******** is GOING to happen no matter what. Might as well let it rip and get on the learning curve asap. Who thinks the Texans have any kind of meaningful aspirations this year? The goal should be to get CJ as acclimated as possible.
Case Keenum is the best QB on the roster and it is not even close. I hope he starts. Plenty of time for the rookie to learn and improve. Mills is done.
