Man killed in FBI raid after alleged threats against Biden, other officials

I agree there are still facts that need to come out about this and we shouldn’t draw definitive conclusions until we know more.

I also agree there is nothing good that can come from this. This man was obviously going down a dark path. Whether that was just from being radicalized from political rhetoric or there might’ve been more going on in his life that was leading him down there. Whether the shooting was justified or not it’s still a tragedy that someone was so troubled they felt that this was their only path.

Also I think in this day there is a danger of someone like this being celebrated as a martyr and leading to more rhetoric and violence.

 

This man has died exercising his first amendment right to free speech. If only he had instead invested more heavily into his second amendment right ...

FBI SWAT agents were giving commands to the man when he pointed a gun at them, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the incident.

The worst part of these MAGA nutjobs is that they arm up and threaten others Trump tells them are the enemy. There is nothing worse than having some lying sociopath coward crybaby bully doing and saying anything he wants, knowing Secret Service will protect him for life from those he attacks, and as he tries to incite his brainwashed cult to attack. He loves seeing his brainwashed and gullible supporters fight for him to be King Trump.

He hides behind his shield of protection, deflects the truth by projection and lies, and then calls himself a warrior for the people. He's like some sick cartoon character of a little coward pretending to be something he isn't, and getting idiots to live his fantasy of a brave warrior they will fight for.

 

I'm most disturbed by the fact that this could have been many many of my family members and people within my social circle. Just this morning my wife pointed me towards my cousin's husbands facebook where he his wallpaper is one giant MAGA slogan, and a picture of him in his Proud Boy like getup with an AR 15 bent over talking to his daughter pointing at the AR.

I see the report now that this man pointed a weapon at the FBI agents after they gave him vocal commands. That is like a 101 course in how to get shot by the cops, but when guys like this come from privilege in their minds they think they'll just get getting a stern talking to.

I also fear that the right will co-opt a killing of unarmed black men to (attempt to) start a nation wide protest that makes this man out to be a martyr and present a case that "Conservative White Men" are being gunned down by law enforcement ala George Floyd. I doubt there will be a major movement like that of course, but it's just going to be an avenue for people like my cousin's husband to get more and more radicalized in a way that could see people like him.... in my family... on the FBI watch list. Its a classic moment that helps organization and terrorist groups to be formed. Moments like this happen that bolster recruitment.

FBI had previously surveilled Robertson
Robertson had been on agents’ radar since at least March 19, when the agency’s National Threat Operations Center received a tip from an unnamed social media company that a person with the username “@winston4eagles” had posted a threat to kill New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

At the time, Bragg was overseeing a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump, the complaint states.

After the tip, two FBI agents began to surveil Robertson’s Provo home in March, where they saw a man later confirmed to be Robertson getting into a vehicle registered to him and driving “a short distance northbound into the parking lot of a church.”

The nearest church to Robertson’s home is a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 450 N. 1220 West, about a block away. The lay leader of the local congregation confirmed Wednesday that Robertson lived alone within his ward boundaries.

At the time Robertson left for church, he was wearing a hat that read “TRUMP” and a dark suit with an AR-15-style rifle pin attached to his lapel, the complaint states.

Several hours later, Robertson exited the church, got into his vehicle and drove the short distance home, the complaint notes. Outside the house, the agents approached him, where one called out, “Mr. Robertson?”

When Robertson answered, the agents identified themselves, the complaint states. During their conversation, Robertson admitted he used the social media username “@winston4eagles,” and when the agents said they would like to speak with him regarding a post he made, Robertson said: “I said it was a dream!”

“We’re done here!” Robertson continued, according to the complaint. “Don’t return without a warrant!”

As agents continued to investigate Robertson, they found more social media posts that appeared to indicate Robertson owned numerous firearms, including a sniper rifle, as well as a ghillie suit, and had made “violent threats to murder public officials.”

It is not clear whether Robertson was armed or opened fire when FBI agents shot and killed him Wednesday.

Barker, with the FBI, did not say whether any FBI agents were injured.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” Barker said in a statement. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting is being investigated by the agency’s Inspection Division.

It's amazing how quickly the rhetoric from the Right when it's George Floyd, Eric Garner, Philando Castille, etc.. about how it's their fault they were killed because they were "resisting" and you should always cooperate with LE. Also how they had drugs in their system and going through their previous records.

When it's someone on the Right it's an overbearing Law Enforcement that can't be trusted and should be defunded.

I hear you. But when you cross the aisle, you see similar behavior in reverse. Local cops get no benefit of the doubt, but an assumption that the FBI followed protocol. Plenty of that in this thread.

I agree and which is why we shouldn't jump to a definitive conclusion. That within hours of George Floyd dying there were many people saying he was resisting, he had drugs in his system, and bringing up that he had done time for armed robbery. Has anyone called for the toxicology report of Roberston or brought up his previous criminal record?

 

I don't believe ACAB but I agree with @JuanValdez that they need to prove they followed protocols and didn't serve and judge and jury in a fury to get this guy.

My inclination based on his social media is he didn't seem like the kind of guy who was interested in complying with the FBI's demands.

Just because I think he FAFO doesn't mean I don't want to see the proof he escalated the situation to a point where deadly force was necessary and due to the militarization of the police forces I believe use of excessive force is more prevalent than ever before.
