Grae Kessinger. And I know it is hard to believe but rosters didn't always have 13 spots reserved to pitchers.
I've asked for a severe hangnail because I don't want to wish injury on anyone. But "something" needs to happen that's out of Dusty's control. I'm definitely done with the "oh but he's a terrific defensive catcher and calls a great game". That doesn't fly anymore. He's as bad defensively as he is inept at the plate.
The difference is, maldy was doing things defensively and with the staff that were good last year. And until we traded for Vasquez, there was no one on the roster better enough than him.. This season, the pitching is doing badly, runners are stealing on him at will, he leads the league in passed balls, and he’s somehow worse offensively… o and all of this while we have had a substantially better player in every single category except LHP on the roster.. goodness, I mean you aren’t even looking to regular stats last year, it’s all circumstantial because he sucked last year too.
Deflecting from what? In my opinion, the whining and b****ing and moaning is far more annoying to me. Especially coming off a Championship. Just comes off as a spoiled rotten fan base.
Some fans prefer that the players and coaches, with all the money they make, are competitive enough to not rest on laurels. Also, the fans see a window closing in a year or 2. The time is now. Also, don't take what others post personally, that’s so silly.
I'm positive it was said by insiders right here that Dusty did not have control of the lineups for post season. Give me some time and I'll find it. It's why Dubon didn't start any playoff games.
Being a spoiled rotten fan base is being a Lakers fan in the 2000s thinking nothing needs to be improved and you can coast through the regular season... which is the opposite if what we are doing.
lol...are you new here? I absolutely do not take it personally. I see the window getting tighter as well but I don't think any of them are resting on their laurels. I see a team that's been just as unlucky with injuries as they were avoiding them last season. They've played way more games than any other team over the last 6 years. It might finally be catching up. So what should a manager do? They're still firmly in the playoff race and will be considered the favorites to win the AL again...because what matters is what you do when you get there. I don't care if they win the division again or win 100 games again. Get to the playoffs and do what you do best. If it means some whacky lineups from time to time to get guys rest, so be it. I'll take Dusty's many many decades of experience over any one here.
What fun is a thread if there's no opposing opinion? Do you guys really need to have everyone agree with you in order to post in a thread? How boring is that?
I dunno. I understand that you would take Dusty’s word first. However, you don’t have to be rude and insinuate that we are all dumbasses here. Lots of hardcore lifetime baseball fans here who are absolutely in love with the sport through playing it and watching and studying it for years and years. We are just talking baseball anyway. It’s an american pastime. I can’t stand fans without opinions, who get annoyed when others do have them. There is nothing less interesting than when someone says “Dusty knows more than me so I won’t say anything”. Wow. Fascinating take! There isn’t anything said here that isn’t said anywhere else. It’s just fans talking, opining, and venting. There are also lots of cheers here too. It takes all of that to make a good fan site.
I am pretty sure Tony LaRussa is a legend and knows more baseball than me... but at this juncture, he should be no where near managing a team.
I think the Astros are winning despite of Dusty So Would the Astros have the cajones to let Him go, a la Click, even if we win the World Series?
Dusty is a hall of fame manager and I completely believe he deserves that. Just like Tony LaRussa deserves it. But all managers are human. They have their own ideas, beliefs, and styles. Dusty was perfect for this team in 2020. Since then the team and its needs have changed to the point he is hurting rather than helping. This team does not have the depth to overcome Dusty's philosophy of constant change among starters and starting the 11th and 12th best hitters much more often than other teams. He also (apparently) allows starting pitchers to choose who starts at catcher and that is the worst hitter in MLB history. If Dusty played the 9 best position players nearly everyday this team would be among the best run scoring teams in baseball. He would also need to choose lineup spots that actually maximize the players' ability and skills. Putting 2 terrible OB% guys like Dubon and Pena 1st and 2nd is just asking to he shut out. As it is, too many players are having bad offensive seasons to overcome light hitting SS and C, and the days off he gives the others.
