Oh I was just playfully teasing by referring to his unique flavor of goofiness, and by no means attempting to imply anything.
If "being an as**ole" and "being good at your job" were mutually exclusive, the HOF would be about half the size. Some players are very good teammates, and get cut some on-field slack because of it. Some players are good, and are so insufferable nobody wants them in the clubhouse. Some players are great, and everybody puts up with them because of that. There's 100 years of examples of this.
I hear he's introverted and doesn't have a celeb personality. During fundraiser or social events, he sticks to the corner thinking no one wants to talk to him.
Now look at starts.. one bats 6-7 and one bats 9. That accounts for some higher amount of at bats in less games. Also, when Diaz plays the offense tends to bat around more because there isn’t a rally killing black hole in the 9-spot. also, it’s not that he doesn’t bat at all. It’s that he doesn’t bat enough. Despite being light years better in the plate appearances he does get..
Honestly, just listening to that clip of dusty last year explaining why Chas doesn’t play against lefty pitching even tho he has a 1.000 ops: dusty saying things like “it depends who the pitcher is notice Chas struck out multiple times against one” Is just total chickensh*t.. can’t believe a manager would go out and throw individual at bats of a guy whose numbers showed what he could do just to validate his own mismanagement is sad.. wtf dusty..
Note that the xwOBA he's referencing here is adjusted by spray angle so it's a much better barometer of whether a given hit/out was lucky/unlucky vs conventional xwOBA which only accounts for launch angle and exit velo. With average luck, Yainer should have like a 140 wRC+. Also indicates that Josh Bell should be having a pretty good season. I bet Click would have signed him over Abreu.
I thought Melusky was thrown off the team for punching Matt Mieske in the face after cutting in front of him during batting practice?
A lot of theories… but it boils down to the fact that you can be an obnoxious ******* if you’re good at your job. If you’re not, you get let go.
Between offense and defense, Diaz had just about as good of game as you can get out of a catcher. Inches from an extra RBI in the 9th to tie it.
Could be costing us a draft pick as well as the wins we are losing. Yainer would be right in the mix for the rookie of the year award in the AL had he been playing catcher the amount he should have been.
I’m just glad we got our catcher of the future playing in the present Not since Biggio and McCann that’s not an offensive liability
Was he not in the ESPN top 100 pre season? I know he was in BA but not in MLB. That's really a dumb rule that MLB put I to the draft compensation. What's it matter if they were in the top 100 or not. Really narrowing down things. They should give compensation for the top five finishers and do away with the top 100 aspect of it and then teams would be bringing up their guys in droves.
Let Maldy be Verlander's and Framber's personal pitcher and let Diaz play DH in those games and have Alvarez play LF while Chas in in center. Let Diaz play catcher in every other game. All I know is if Chas and Diaz isn't playing every damn game by the last month of the season, I will mutiny.
