It's the top and only political argument. Political arguments based on straight-out lies are a norm in the Trump wing. I don't think politically it works, though, for a number of reasons:
    1. The MY speech right was a wishful argument that didn't come to be (almost as if the prosecutor knew what to avoid).
    2. The MY speech argument is greatly reduced in impact due to it being based on a lie.
    3. The willingness to base an argument on a proven lie is a sign of desperation that is not going to work politically for anyone outside of the right-wing bubble.
Legally, I'm sure there are many legitimate arguments, but Trump and his team are much more interested in winning the election (while leaving the legal arguments to his lawyers in court). The funny thing is his lawyers probably could be much better at this if not for Trump picking and prioritizing politics over super star legal minds, so politics it is.

Typical Trump. He's like a child brat in an 80 year old body. I wonder how Melania stomachs even being in the same house as him.

I get the feeling Trump’s team view the legal argument as one and the same as the political argument. I think most of his defenders frequently conflate the two also.

The sad part is this is a big part of his appeal to many of his supporters.

This is not the same Mike Pence I saw as VP, this one has a backbone. I think his legacy means more to him than anything else and he is not going to be slandered...................I am afraid we will not have enough Mike Pence`s of the world who will stand up to the maga base and I am not sure why. When did power become more important than the Republic of the United States and doing what is right?

I give him a little credit, but that weasel would still vote for Trump. He won't even admit he won't. It's still all about power with that party.

    It's the same Mike Pence.

He played pallete cleanser for the prayer vote, held his tongue and bid his time for the Big Shot.

That same vote loves Trump more now, so he has to play this angle if he wants any chance at any semblance of power like a cabinet seat.

You can give him credit for uhh refusing to break the law and taking part in a conspiracy to foment a Constitutional crisis , but I guess that's a big Kudo for the Republican party these days.

Congratulations Republican! You sure did your doodie. Now wipe your ass, and don't forget to flush down the mess you made.

    Responsible. Sensible.

I was thinking about it, and maybe it's this simple. We often give him credit as a marketer, but maybe these unhinged, all-caps tweets are something different. It's just his pure internal monologue, his ego's view of the universe, and that could be part of his allure to those who love him. He may lie, manipulate, distort, violate, etc, but you're getting the real deal, the real DJT with no fancy politician shine, no gloss, nothing fake. You get direct access to his thoughts and ego, and maybe some people find that super refreshing. For me, if that idea holds any validity, that would make the DJT phenomenon a lot, lot more understandable.

And Democrats don't trust the 2016 election because they lost, except without major mass mail in voting and live results that same night. They then proceeded to question the election for 4 years and not once got fact checked. Not once were they blamed for disinformation. Not once were they acknowledged for inciting violence. Not once were they scolded for it, so you expected Trump to not question the election after going through that for 4 years.

Since day 1 Trump was not treated equally to any president that came before him. He was a joke to everyone until they realized he had a base and that base showed up on election night. Yes, we found out the same night. The world was a different place and elections were handled the same way they had been for decades. Until 2020, whether you believe mail in voting in such large numbers is safe or not does not matter. The country did not know the results for days. Whether there was fraud or not this opens up a window for doubt. But you don't care about that doubt because its not your problem. You won. And in 2016 the day after this is what we got.

It was clowning on him non stop since he decided to run. I still remember being in my office and talking to some of the up front receptionist when the news flashed on tv that Trump was running. My reaction was, "I hate that guy, I hope he loses... What a joke" I didn't know why I disliked him. I just knew I did from some of his shows. The jokes kept rolling in until it got annoying and I started to change sides based on how whiny pathetic mainstream media was being about it.

Trump was never respected or wanted by mainstream media, or democrats or even republicans. Not a single person on this thread can tell me honestly they had a positive opinion of Trump from day 1, I can admit I disliked him from day 1.

He gets destroyed on a daily basis for 4 years, denied legitimacy despite doing pretty well as a president considering he was not a politician. The country thrives, regardless of why it thrived but it did. He was still seen as a joke, 2020 rolls up and ya'll seriously expect this man to not question what was happening. Trump has dominated the news and tv screens for nearly a decade now, you tired of him? Nah ya'll aint. All of you are going to be glued to that hearing. Just so you can finally receive justification for your hate and dislike. Despite other politicians doing the same thing he did. They just aren't Trump.

Questioning an election is one thing. Going out of your way to attempt changing the actual election process into your favor is another thing.

Also didn't help Trump case that jan 6 happened bc of his rhetoric and his inaction to prevent it.

No one wanted Jan 6 to happen, it was stupid and pointless. Trump had already conceded the election, I think Trump did want people to question it thou. I think Trump did want people to protest and push back. There was nothing he could gain from people storming the capitol, I also don't think that it was the original intent of the people there that day. How things led to what they did is anyone's guess but it takes a long stretch to think Trump was betting on Jan 6 to help in any way shape or form.

The judge then warned Trump: “You have heard your conditions of release. It is important you comply. You may be held pending trial in this case if you violate the conditions of release.”

She asked Trump: “Do you understand these warnings and consequence, sir? Are you prepared to comply?”

    Trump responded: “Yes.”

This would at least put Trump on notice that he will be treated like any other criminal defendant who violates conditions of release pending trial.

That’s what the rule of law is all about.

At this moment, about 400,000 criminal defendants are in jail in the United States awaiting trial because they didn’t meet a condition of their release.

Why should Trump be treated any differently after he broke the conditions he agreed to. Not just once!
