I’m not arguing that they weren’t bad picks, although the hit rate of low first rounder are not high to begin with. I’m just saying we didn’t get nothing back, it was essentially a trade of Tyty, Garuba and two seconds for Landale, Green, Holiday. Otherwise there would be no way of signing those guys.

The team we gave them to GOT ASSETS BACK from moving them on to OKC. Let's not pretend our front office didn't f up here. Just to give Dillion Brooks a pay rise. lol

No they didn’t, Atlanta included another 2nd rounder to move them to okc.

They gave too many minutes to Nix, Mathews and Fernando. Idk how else to explain that. Maybe a regular role and playing time would've at least had some team interested in giving back a 2nd round pick.

Boban was the garbage man and got fed shots so the fans would clap and cheer in an otherwise terrible season. I don't know how else to explain that either.

No takers....yet? Then keep them. They dumped them for nothing because they didn't want to hurt the Hawks feelings... I mean we're reading the same reports right??

You can't seriously be arguing that these players were handled well.

Respectfully, you don't seem to have a grasp on the mechanics of the trade.

Your assessment is, therefore, wide of the mark.

No, they were not handled well

The proper handling of these guys was probably to not even draft them in the first place.

I know you and a few others have a weird obsession with Garuba but man - that guy was just not good at literally anything. An undersized, unathletic defense only C who couldn't defend Centers!

That's not a guy you have on an NBA roster especially if you are a bad team.

But yeah sure something something Nix Matthews - whatever dude.

They set up trades in order to acquire Brooks Lopez. Then BL duffed and the Rockets went through with the setup trades anyway. What am I missing?

Fully agree with the bolded statement. If they had no real plans for these guys why even bother? Package them up for future picks or moving up. This feels like a waste.

Garuba was pretty good at defense always poking the ball away, hit 40% of his 3s and had a knack for hitting open players off the short roll. He played hard. I feel like opportunity was his biggest obstacle.

And uh...yeah. Nix and tank crew were really bad. Definitely not NBA level players and got enough time and big enough roles to prove it. Why were they given that opportunity while recent draft picks were left with scraps?

Once again he was a regular rotation member from games 3-82. He played regular NBA rotation minutes by any rational definition of the term. Not last 2 minutes garbage time appearance but full 10 or 20 + performances, checking in in the first half. In fact he's literally the median player in terms of minutes played - 270 out of 539 NBA players last year.

    Regular. Rotation. Minutes.

The comparatively small number of games where he played < 10 minutes were ones where he'd do the ol "3 fouls in 8 minutes" or literally fall on his face while attempting to dribble, or get played out of the league by Mark Williams.

You're free to believe that Garuba is - despite the obvious - a hidden diamond in the rough, that's purely subjective; but to say he didn't get any playing time is objectively incorrect.

It would appear, quite a lot.

    Landale, Green, Holiday
Perhaps you think Garuba and Washington are better than those guys right now? I would politely disagree. Each to their own I suppose.

End of the line, we have 6 first round draft picks from the last 3 drafts whom we are developing. I don't see the space for Garuba and Washington in that mix. I see them as easily replaceable in coming drafts, and much prefer the cap space being used to add veteran presence and a backup big. That's just me.

Your argument needs to be that those players are better than the ones incoming, NOT that we just dumped them for nothing. It simply isn't true.

I hope TyTy finds a place. Seemed like a player with potential, and a good kid.
