They go way up in Republican polls but not among independents or nationally.

This is one of the reasons I think even if he is convicted he won’t actually go to prison. At most he might be under house arrest in Mar-A-Lago.

Seeing Trump campaigning with an ankle monitor might be quite a sight too.

That is NOT how house arrest works, right?

Trump's freedoms under house arrest should greatly reduced. No campaigning. No tweeting. No golf. No granting audiences with his sycophants.

Of course, Trump will violate conditions for his house arrest Day One. Trump is his own worst enemy and will likely have to spend some time in the Big House.

Sorry should’ve been more specific. I think at worst Trump ends up in house arrest. I think another possibility is he’s convicted but on monitored release.

Former POTUS who are convicted criminals should not have any protection from the Secret Service. Such individuals are no longer of high value to the stability of the US government or of any significance to the US. The Former Presidents Protection Act should be amended to remove such protection for convicted criminals.

Practically, they could isolate his cell and monitor it live. He would be very protected by four concrete walls.

For one, he knows where his bread is buttered now and has embraced his life in angertainment as separate from a former life as a pseudo-intellectual. And he's not alone of course, and maybe he's better paid now. I have no idea.

For another, I honestly think the brain starts to rot once it plays often enough with the "truth is just a social construct" idea. Maybe he believes election results are shoddy constructs that don't have any real value beyond what a group of people assign to the numbers. And there's some ... um .... truth to that, in a way, if the alternative is us behaving like feral bands of mud people. And once you abandon the value of jointly held common beliefs and perceived truths for a society, and once you embrace a role eroding that social unity, (looking at a group of team > country posters here as part of the movement toward the cliff), you're playing a very dangerous game.

I honestly don't know what these people envision if it's not a civil war or two separate countries or some other dismal landscape in the future. That's how divisive all this "we have our own reality" bullcrap is.

EDIT: Why even post his tweets here? We know their narrative now. They paint Jack Smith not as someone doing his job as part of a civil society with rules and order but as some sort of barbarian partisan who will wreck not just Trump's chances at re-election but the future of the presidency.

To me, I'm hoping Smith can wreck a future of presidents who behave like Trump and do not embrace the peaceful transfer of power that's long been a pillar of our country, but that's probably a tad optimistic.

The whole Biden going after a political appointment is straight up lies and propaganda. Trump committed these acts before he ever declared running in 2024. If anyone is threatening a political opponent it's the Republicans. They've been screaming to impeach Biden for years. They just can't face the facts of all Trump's pending court dates. The dude has committed so many criminal acts it's mind-blowing that he isn't in jail. His spreading threats on social media should be enough to put him behind bars until his trials, and stop him from continuing on social media and at fundraisers and rallies.

I don't give a damn if this sociopath is running for President. He shouldn't be free to do what he's doing just because he wants to run for office. Treat that guy like any other person would be treated. His crimes don't deem him worthy of Secret Service Protection or any other benefit if he is convicted. He betrayed his country, and his country shouldn't pay for his betrayal with their tax dollars. The laws need changed because of Trump.

No. Creates an incentive prosecute the last president and then have him murdered in prison so he can't run against you later.
