I agree about September going to an actual prospect who provides some value. As for Singleton there is really no downside. If he doesn't hit well, he still can't be any worse than Julks. If they need to expose him to waivers he probably doesn't get claimed but if he did what did they lose? He had already blown the only chance they were going to give him. Matijevic anyone? Bring him up now then Leon in September.
What does it say that a guy who is 23 and listed as #11 prospect in the system was not claimed on waivers?
Wouldn't surprise me if he becomes the American Pedro Leon at worst, a superior athlete who's viability in the majors depends entirely on getting his K rate below 25-ish percent in AAA, which may prove a massive struggle. So far, really not concerned about his performance in low-A. A .670 OPS is just a bit above Drew Gilbert at .654 at the same age and time. Except for that nearly 50% K rate, but extreme SSS of course. Very interesting to see Dana trying to utilize the Astros' famed player development to strike gold with high-risk high-reward guys.
I know people love to play around with them (this IS MY TOP 40) and that's cool or whatever...but it's just so much horsesh!t that doesn't need to be taken seriously.
Well, they didn't just get unclaimed, they got canned. While he was always flirting with disaster, Blake Taylor somehow wasn't totally useless in 2020. Too bad the metrics bit him after that.
Awful fielding on that second one, no need to dive for a 5% chance for an out vs a 95% chance of turning a single into a HR. I get there was a runner on third, but with only one out he scores regardless.

Try to remember what you thought about Chas four years ago. Or J.P. France. They are both 28. Being 24 but still succeeding as an Astro minor leaguer isn’t exactly a death sentence. And Loperfido plays all three outfield positions plus 1st and 2nd. He’s probably better than Julks, Dubon and Kessinger right now but limited playing time and 40 man considerations aren’t worth giving up the development benefits of everyday at bats.
