Some of you mf'ers act like you are unfamiliar with how baseball works. The best teams of all time still lose 60 games a year.
Dusty is going to throw a wild line up out there tomorrow, I can feel it. Either Peña/Bregman/abreu will be off. But I’d like to see him try this line up a few times Altuve 2b Tucker RF Bregman 3b Yordan LF/DH Abreu 1b Chas OF Diaz DH/C Peña ss Maldy/Meyers/Julks.
Brown pitching, Diaz should catch. Dusty will roll out this lineup… Altuve, Dubon, Tucker, bregman, Yordan, abreu, Chas, Diaz, Peña I would love to see… Altuve, bregman, Tucker, alverez, Abreu, Chas, Diaz, Peña, Dubon
Any of our Stros lineups and rotation are better than the current Spankees batting and pitching. The before All-Star game Montero belongs to the Yankees. Diaz should be playing everyday, Taqueria Arandas should be platooning until playoffs.
One thing I just realized is that Chas has done what he's done with literally no protection in the lineup. It's mind blowing why he is batting 7th.
The problem with platooning Pena is that the options aren't better. Pena, Dubon, and Kessinger all hit LHP well and suck vs RHP. ( hope for Kessinger as he hasn't had many PA). All you can hope vs RHP is that Diaz catches and drop Pena to 9th.
This is quite frustrating really. Almost to a man, Sugar Land's hitters are also much better vs LHP and not very impressive vs RHP. The exceptions are Rylan Bannon and Jon Singleton. Leon is slightly better vs RHP but still not great considering he Ks so much and itsvthe PCL (.805) Not many options. I think it's time to give big Jon another shot and send Corey down. Nothing to lose, really.
This team is very very ordinary and beatable vs RHP. 99 OPS+ (18th) 107 vs LHP (9th) 101 wRC+ (17th) 112 vs LHP (12th)
If only there was a way to play 9 guys with an average wRC+ of 126 against RHPs while still playing the guys that measure out as the best defenders in tangible stats. That would be (checks notes) the best hitting team against RHPs. So mysterious.
Also, how the f$%^ is the wRC+ against LHPs only 112? Edit: Maldy isn't the issue against LHPs. It looks like Dusty decided against having Chas and Meyers take about 12% of the PAs against LHPs to play significantly worse hitters against LHPs. If those guys were played against LHPs full time when they were healthy (using Julks as proxy for hitter removed), the Astros would be 3rd against LHPs (119). Alvarez's injuries are what is keeping that number from best against LHPs.
If a coin flips heads 4 times in a row, should we expect it to flip heads everytime going forward? Maybe Pena is a rare hitter that hits better at the 2nd spot, but Dusty is assuming a coin that flips heads 4 times will always flip heads with only 4 coin flips to base his decision that it must be a trick coin. Odds are a good chunk of the benefit Pena has already provided batting second will be eroded as there are likely a lot of other hitters that would hit better than him there going forward, but Pena will bat there instead of them. Edit: Where you bat matters some. It doesn't take a guy that can't hit and make him an elite hitter.
