first it was head huncho, now most versatile. Boy this guy is going places.

When is it going to be a fully guaranteed contract? Asking for a friend

hopefully this is the last year we have to deal with him on the roster, i can't imagine they'd pick up the 2/32 or whatever the option is after the season. Then again, brooks happened to who knows

I don’t doubt that if KPJ puts his head down, works hard and listens to his coaches, he indeed has a chance to be one of our most versatile players. I hope to see him a lot at the 2 & the 3.

This seems highly unlikely. A lot of players on this team have considerable versatility. Plus there is no telling what kind of minutes he will earn with coach. Eason, Cam, Thompson among others will likely eat into his minutes and maybe even freeze him out if he doesn't step up in fundamental ways.

I'm sure coach will give him a solid chance but will he shine bright enough next to the others? That would require he really blossom. I hope that happens.

Im still very interested to see how his contract plays out.

Stay in Houston for the duration and get every penny?
Cut at some point for cap relief in Houston?
Traded elsewhere and new team keeps him on his current deal?
Traded and then cut for cap savings?

3rd option would be what I presume is the most likely, but I could see any of them being the outcome depending on how things go.

he's VERY overpaid so if he's traded the other team is gonna cut him, would make no sense to pick up his option when you could just sign him for less

KPJ, just like the rest of the roster, was horrendously misused last year. An elite off ball shooter (43% on C&S 3s) and cutter who's awful at off the dribble threes (only shot 35% for 3 total despite the first stat) and mediocre vision forced to be the primary ball handler of the team.

I could see him as a "6th man" and still play 27 minutes off the bench.

As somebody generally low on KPJ who doesn't think he's a good fit on our team: I don't think he's overpaid in the current salary climate, when guys like Donte DiVincenzo, Dennis Schroder, Max Strus, and DLo are all getting paid around the same.

$15M now is like $8M a few years ago. I think he's getting paid an appropriate AAV for his talent level, and the crazy non-guaranteed NFL-style contract is the penalty he's had to suffer for being such an asshat his first few years in the league. If he can show he's turned over a new leaf, the contract will make him a good value for some team that needs what he brings more than we do.

i'd have 0 interest in trading for any of those guys unless the other team attached assets, someone else having a bad contract doesn't make our bad contract any better

Those are all four new free agents signings from this offseason--of course they don't have surplus value over contract, they're getting paid the max any team was willing to offer them.

It's just market rate for this talent level now, though... gotta adjust to the times
