Abreu witih an amazing defensive play! Don't know how he fielded the little dribbler to his glove so cleanly
I said it after his last start (captain obvious) but JP is a pitchers pitcher. Nothing overwhelming, he’s pretty crafty, mixes it well, doesn’t get too down after bad pitches and FFS he does NOT want to be sent back down!!
Abreu is decidedly league average +/- in every fielding category for 1B. Not sure why there's this much hate other than recency bias.
Only thing better would have been Maton facing Straw with Diaz as the catcher… and either striking him out or throwing him out at 2nd. Thank you Cleveland (and Click… and Dusty for being stubborn and continuing to play Straw over everybody till he forced the GM to trade him…)
Admittedly its recency bias -- but he had a few stinkers lately that cost the team. He's also a big investment over the next few years so I think some of the shade on him is related to those expectations.
Baserunners are 14/16 against Abreu in his career. It's impressive that Diaz even made it a close play
