Also, Maldy has 52 at bats against LHP this year. Yeah his small sample OPS against lefties is .735. Still, 19 k’s in 52 at bats. This is a silly reason to keep running him out there. and honestly, Baker sat Diaz against a RHP today. So I call bullshit on any excuse used to play Maldy over Diaz at this point. It really is just a stubborn old man doing his thing. It makes no sense offensively or defensively.
Reverse splits are incredibly and exceedingly rare. The ops difference between Diaz at catcher and DH, like the reverse splits, is probably all small sample size bullshit. What does he have, something like 50 PA’s against LHP? And 120 as dh and 100 as catcher or something like that? I doubt either thing represent true talent level and probably normalize moving forward.
Again, my point really was: 2 pitchers want Maldy to catch them + Maldy should start against LHP + 3 pitchers are vastly better with Diaz behind the plate = what?...ok nevermind, I'm tired of talking about Dusty. I know what I would do, but my opinion means nothing. eta factoid: I will add that Diaz has not been good against LHP for the past couple of years in the minors as well.
Maldy’s OPS against lefties this year is 50 points higher than his career mark. Also, he strikes out 33% of the time in his career against lefties. This has become the lone reason to keep sending Maldy out there over Diaz? Every other metric points to Diaz, so the Maldy camp clings to this vs lefty split for dear life? Oh yeah and the “pitchers want Maldy” thing is wearing paper thin too. Any manager worth his salt would roll over that easily, especially if it were 2 pitchers. Dusty is so stubborn that I doubt he would let 40% of his rotation decide who catches. Remember, the lineup is Dusty’s thing. Maldy’s 11 hits against LHP’s this year is not saving us.
I’ve made it clear. Baker being fired ain’t happening and I’m not calling for it but the better player at C isn’t playing as MUCH as he should be and anyone trying to convince anyone otherwise via stats and the mythical “pitcher preference” just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but you do you if you’re down for what’s taking place at the C position with Baker in charge. A lot of us are saying/implying, the media included, that IF Baker REALLY wants to get Diaz in more he could do it and yet again and again he doesn’t. Hell, the other night and today was an opportunity to PH for MM and yet it didn’t happen.
Dusty: "Who they got pitching?" Coach: "Littell--" Dusty: "Lefthand you said? Arright! {✏️#9: Maldy}"
If said pitchers are pitching like crap why should they have a say, especially Javier. Framber is your ace so I guess I’ll give him that, but Javier should not be dictating anything. The GM or Crane need to step in. We are sh**ing away our chances this year, because of emotional bs instead of making logical decisions. I know it does no good, but I will continue to blow the horns on a FO that is not doing every thing they can to win now, without gutting our future. They make more money if we make the playoffs, right? I don’t know why they are allowing this to happen.
I can't even believe there is a "Maldy camp"... I get he was a one time silver slugger finalist and a gold glover... but he's not exactly the Astros version of PBev out there trying to oust Jeremy from a starting spot. ...also remembered why I put certain people on the ignore list.
Dusty justified not starting Diaz yesterday because he doesn't hit LHP as well but all the pitchers the Rays played yesterday were righties......
Or one of Biden’s thousand moments. If you are going to go political at least pick the correct idiot.
McConnell got taken out by his own... 1 - pricked w neurotoxin 2 - reset with some type of zapper / stunner that threw off whatever bio-electrical hardware he has (ie pacemaker)... Go watch the video 4-5 times and focus on those behind/around him... pay close attention to everyone's eyes/actions/reactions.
Even if you truly believe that Maldy will produce as much as Diaz vs LHP (which I do not) Diaz is clearly better behind the plate The whole argument is silly though 99% of the world could tell you Maldanado shouldn’t be an mlb regular anymore and Diaz is clearly better But 1 person gets to write out the lineup And if he thinks Maldy>Diaz and Julks>Chas That who gonna play
