I vehemently disagree. Hillary Clinton as a SOS and a Senator was not at all unpopular. As a first lady, yes, the hard right hated her. However the Republicans and the media really did a number on her just with the constant drip drip drip of Hillary this Hillary that. Benghazi, Benghazi, her emails, her emails, etc. etc. I know plenty of Democratic leaning or Independent voters who didn't keep up with any of it but just said "I'm just so sick of Hillary." Newt Gingrich really was the first and his partnership with Bill O'Reilly and Ailes at Fox really primed the pump back in the 90's, Hillary had a lull in the 2000's and then in the 2010's they perfected the art of Hillary hatred.
