If I ever hear that there is a nuclear missile headed towards where I’m at I’m going to
Put on a baseball glove and run out and yell “I GOT IT!”

What about a permanent us base in Ukraine? Wouldn't it be the same thing?

The PRC has been running war games over how to invade Taiwan for decades. I wouldn’t read too much into this.

Right? This all seems par for the course.

Hitting targets in Moscow is inevitable, perhaps necessary, and probably justified given the merciless targeting of civilians in Ukraine's cities. And Ukraine hasn't (yet) stooped to attacking out-and-out civilian targets. Felt fine about attacking military targets in Russian territory, but I'm uneasy with talk about "symbolic" targets. The World Trade Center was a symbolic target. Ukraine is a half-step away from retaliating against terrorism with their own terrorism. (None of that hand-wringing is meant to imply any second thoughts about supporting Ukraine's defense.)

Nope, it would not, Ukraine deserves to point to something as a win, and auto NATO entry is a major win for them, Putin can claim territory won, Ukraine can claim NATO entry won....and open borders for a couple of years to allow Russians to relocate back to Russia and Ukrainians the same.

This would be more likely than NATO entry since it requires unanimous approval (Turkey)

Even with approval,NATO entry is likely a non starter given Putin's declared justifications for the war

It's still a gamble. You declare a coalition victory while hoping Saddam Putin dies of old age or coup. In the meanwhile you hope the Ukrainians clean house and reduce endemic corruption by 60-80% for eventual EU application

Offtopic, but I'm just going to ignore Musk's stupid rebranding and persist with calling it twitter.
