Nobody cares about it but you do have to understand how propaganda and disinformation over the long haul works to really understand the methodology here. Ex: Hillary and Benghazi. Most Americans really didnt know the details about what exactly happened with the embassy attack, and didn’t really care. But in the background every day they kept hearing about it over and over and over. Even on so-called liberal media outlets. Then in 2016 you had people finally tuning into politics in an election year and while most in the middle and left were turned off by a guy who was openly racist and a sexual predator, they just had it in the back of their mind that “yeah but Hillary is pretty bad too. There’s that Benghazi thing etc etc…” and that really hurt her ability to have voters objectively analyze her campaign promises, and positives. So this whole Hunter Biden smear campaign has a negative impact long term… if the “ liberal”media finally buckles and starts letting it simmer long term like we all know they will. Is it an actual story… yes. Is it anything that should be treated like the death of democracy and freedom the way the right wants us to believe it is… hell no.

That conduct would still be unconstitutional and reprehensible in my view, but at least the argument makes sense. But how about suppression of the lab leak theory of Covid origin? Nothing about whether the lab leak theory is right or wrong goes to the question of whether taking the vaccine, or following other public health recommendations (like masks or lockdowns) is a good idea. No, the suppression of the lab leak theory of Covid origins is purely a question of not making the Chinese rulers look bad. So why would the U.S. government get involved in any way in trying to make the Chinese rulers look good, right after they had unleashed Covid upon the world? Why would you think that Americans wouldn't care about the murder and humiliating treatment of the corpse of the US Ambassador to Libya and the murder of others stationed there? As you point out, even the so-called liberal media outlets cared.
Hillary Clinton and Benghazi vs the actual Benghazi story are two different things. And I hate to say it, but anyone who says that Americans were worked up for months on end over the actual Benghazi story is lying. Yes it was a tragedy, and it was a game changer for embassy security measures, but for the most part things like this happen, and people move on with their lives. The Hillary/Benghazi story though people just didn't really care about other than Republicans thinking they had a way to smear her in order to damage for 2016 since it was obvious she was going to be the front runner candidate. Normal Americans didn't care about that story, but the consistency of hearing "Hillary/Benghazi" then "Hillary/Emails" did stick in voters brains at a subliminal level which did have an impact. Comey's last minute re-opening of the email case and it being treated as a huge deal in the "liberal" media was the final nail in the coffin for casual Americans who don't necessarily spend countless nights up all night worrying about embassy security, and classified document markings at the State Level. They didn't know or care about those issues, but it was just the constant repetition that led them to say "Hillary... eh.. she's just as bad because of some of the stuff I've heard about with her emails and Benghazi"... even though they don't normally care about those issues.

I reckon that most Americans just figure those things are well taken care of, but just because I don't fret about something going wrong doesn't mean I'm not concerned when it does. We all heard the YouTube video lie from the outset. Those events only played on independent voters who don't strike me as most often being casual Americans.
