If one reads between the lines here, its easy to deduce he's catching heat (the org internally) for his buffoon, asinine decisions. "Everybody trying to help me manage, I don't really need it, thank you" Be grateful that there are those that care enough about the optics of your lame-duck season just as much as upholding their championship winning organizational standard.
How do you square away these factors: Maldy is requested to catch Framber and Javier All other pitchers pitch better with Diaz behind the plate Framber and Javier have not pitched much to Diaz this season Maldy hits LHP much, much better than Diaz Diaz destroys RHP Diaz is terrible at DH Yordan is the DH [addendum: Diaz is ****ing horrible with runners on base, scoring position, all that] ... So...how do you make out the lineup? It's hard to platoon a catcher when 1 of them has to catch 2 pitchers no matter who the other pitcher is and the have massive splits against the opponents
You let your better defensive and offensive young catcher learn lefties. You give him opportunity to catch Framber and Javier. Otherwise you fail in your post season run during your limited time because your gut tells you otherwise.
Diaz is not substantially better than Diaz against Lh pitchers. You can’t learn how to hit them from the bench. Maldonado hasn’t learned to hit kind of pitchers his entire creek
Diaz should start 5 days a week and it shouldn’t matter if it’s a lefty or righty. Diaz will learn to mash lefties too. It’s just time. I know some of us think we sound like a more evolved fan by going against the kill Maldy grain, and I listened for a while, but it’s just holding onto thin air at this point. It is for Dusty too. Play the better player.
I just looked, and fuuuuuuuck me...the weather's gonna be exactly the same tomorrow as it was for the past few weeks and will be for the forseeable future. Oh well, I think I'll just have to deal with it.
Yes his OPS is very much higher than Diaz against LH. My point is Maldy still sucks against Lefties and a player with Diaz batting instincts will adapt and be better than Maldi in not time.
If Diaz is the catcher of the “future” is the organization fine with sitting him against lefties for the rest of the regular season and PS and letting Diaz “figure it out” next season? Is Diaz really not going to play in the postseason against lefties? So Dusty throws data out the window for his gut old school calls UNLESS it endangers a vets playing time then he uses the data to substantiate his old school decision….
I am concerned about the catcher position but not because of Maldy or Diaz. Lee was possibly the most crucial catcher in the system this season. Even if you think Diaz really is the catcher of the future, (he isn't). When we began this season there where three catchers who could reasonably be depended upon to help this team through the season and into the playoffs. I fully expected at some point Maldy would spend time on the injured list, and I still do. Lee was frittered away in a horrible overpay for a reliever and we are left with nobody to step in if an injury to one of our catchers occurs. At Maldonado's age this seems highly likely but the truth is either of them could go down at any given time. If Brown has plans to correct this error by trading more assets to bring in another catcher he is unlikely to find a better one than we already had. I continue to find fault with Brown when I did not go looking for it.
This is just not true, and it's the most infuriating thing about trying to have a conversation with a whole bunch of you. Facts are facts, opinions are opinions, and sometimes the twain should meet, but mostly not with yall though. Maldy's OPS against LHP is better than the Astros team OPS against everyone
eta: and I'm not advocating for anything in particular, I'm just saying that if you're gonna talk **** at least have your **** together and know some **** before you start **** talking. eta: and I'm not talking about any "you" in particular, it's a general thing
Diaz plays better defense anyway. Lol maybe Maldy should DH against lefties. Then we can have a DH who can’t hit .180.
This really should be a fireable offense on the spot. The fact that some people still don’t get what a clown he is is almost impossible for me to fathom.
