Dana Brown was pretty straightforward. The market is way too pricey and there aren't a lot of sellers.

You know the answer to the question. However, he's been very close to the process and knows what has worked and what has not. In any career field your experience contributes to your promotion and your employer assesses you have potential to succeed at the next level. Yes, this trade deadline is DB's first real test and we'll see how he does. Personally, I believe in Dana and feel more confident in him than Click and I like the Graveman acquisition.

To your second point, of course. Det will reach back and ask teams for this or that, and their GMs will make a call on whether its worth the ask. Its a dynamic process, and it will likely run the course of the deadline.

Can we add a 1B who can field to the list of needs? My goodness.

Astros needed a strong starting pitcher and create a 6 man rotation to save arms.

Framber, Javier, Eurquidy, Brown, France, Bielak will have to do.

Astros will most certainly add a starter.

LOLOLOL, great timing. Bielak sucks a donkey and Verlander has 5 innings with 1 run against him.

But yeah, we don't need him at all. Bielaking is just fine

JV would be a perfect fit here, especially in 2024.

With Framber, Javier, Brown, France, Urquidy, and L.Garcia and/or McCullers they could go with a 6 man rotation for the entire season, be set up in case of injury, and keep the entire rotation fresh.

The Mets would probably not be interested in anyone on that list except possibly McCullers on a salary dump/buy low candidate.

SD is both buying and selling. They could sell rentals like Snell and Hader as long as they get current MLB contributors back and set themselves up better for 2024.

They having been using a 4 man rotation + jigsaw puzzling the 5th spot until Wacha returns from injury (should be within 7-10 days) so will need to get a starter back since they are still in the WC race.

The options are Brown, France, Bielak, Blanco, or Dubin. Brown would not make sense, and Bielak, Blanco, or Dubin look to be a significant step down. It would need to be France.

Similarly, they will want a RP back to replace Hader for the playoffs run.

With France having 5 more years of control, its not necessary to give up more control but SD will still want a guy they can use in the playoffs. Stanek or Maton fit but Stanek is just having too down of a year for SD to want him. It will need to be Maton.

Obviously the Astros couldn't trade these positions 1 for 1 or else it would not improve the Padres and therefore not make sense for them.

C, 1B, DH, and possibly CF are potential positions the Padres could improve to make the deal worth it to them. The Astros really only have Julks (DH) or Meyers (CF) who fit.

Trent Grisham is very similar to Meyers. Very good fielder and slightly below average hitter. He hits LH but is a reverse splits guy so would not improve Astros vs RHP. But he has a slightly better arm but 2 years less control. Swapping he and Meyers gives SD 2 more years of control for essentially the same player.

Astros get Snell, Hader, and Grisham.
Padres get France. Maton, and Meyers.

While I agree JV is far and away better and I’d want him in the rotation over Bielak…Let’s not act like the defense hasn’t let Brandon down today in a big way.

This run has been amazing. The one way to guarantee it will come to an end is to ignore the future and go all in now.

    Bielak stinks.
He doesn't even shut down guys when he goes down to Sugar Land like you would expect from a major league starter.
He's a Pete Munro or Dave Mlicki type.

7 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings is cause for him not to be anyone we can count on.

Pete Munro started a potential pennant winning game 6 of the 2004 NLCS…. (They lost. Wasn’t really his fault though).

He went 2.1 ip and gave up 4 runs.
How was it not at least partially his fault?

Never said he had nothing to do with it…. Still had no business starting that game.
