We all knew that Dusty would pull some BS today.

Well, both were true last year, and what happened at the end?

If Meyers is traded, Dubon becomes the backup CF. It makes sense to give him playing time there.

Maldy starting also doesn't surprise me bring a day game after night game.

Of course if the Astros get JV, then Maldy will start in Framber, Javier, AND JVs starts.

This lineup gives the team a great PH and a couple of PR options.

    Go Astros.

It was a team effort. Verlander was shaky in the playoffs. Even Dusty wasn’t dumb enough to make Dubon a starter in the playoffs, at least not in the WS and especially not in CF. Dubon was a non factor if I remember correctly. Demanding a personal CF is ego driven trash anyway.

Except Dusty this season has consistently started Maldy on day games after night games... and Diaz has been riding the bench 2 of past 3 games.

You actually think this team as constructed, can win a World Series this year? Bielak and a rookie starting 2-3 games in a series? We need another starter and I'd take Verlander in a heartbeat.

day game after night game is not a legitimate reason. Dusty has started Maldy in both games way more than once this year.

you can’t mask benching one of our best hitters with “great pinch hitting option”. Thats incredibly weak. Dubon can shag flies in practice before and after games if he wants. He’s a pro, no need for all this accommodation. He is a shitty CF too and that ain’t gonna change. I don’t want old ass JV, especially if he’s gonna make demands that **** up Diaz’s progress and also makes us play with a shitty CF.

Maybe he thinks Diaz isn't old enough to start a day game after a night game? hmmm

Verlander comes across to me as being pretty smart

Yes, he wanted Maldanado as his catcher last year. But Maldanado was a better catcher last year than this year. He was still overrated last year, but he has gone downhill quite a bit this year. Verlander could also see that the Astros pitchers have actually performmed better with Diaz. I'm not so sure Verlander would demand/ask for Maldanado to be his catcher

Now, that doesn't mean Johnnie wouldn't do it anyway

Probably not. I don’t think we do much better by adding Verlander, a mediocre playoff performer and 40 years old and very expensive. I was hoping for someone better and younger.

    I want Verlander back also

But Bielak wouldn't be starting playoff games unless there were more injuries

    Framber
    Javier
    Brown
    France/Urquidy

Fully agree we need another starter, but i'm more concerned about the rest of the regular season as much as anything.

The Rangers potentially got better, so we need to do something.

I mean, a little bit better, they added a #4 quality arm....thus far they haven't done anything that moves the needle.

Let's just hope these "Dead Arm" issues are resolved by then!

Are you under the impression Diaz is their starting catcher? They are going pick Yordan over Diaz at DH without thinking twice while Yordan is coming off of a 6-week injury in terms of easing him into playing the field. Maldy is going to continue to catch the majority of games.

You'll be a lot less confused by "the idiot" if you accept that Maldy is the Astros starting catcher. As the Astros have said, Diaz is the catcher of the future. By definition, that means "not the present". I believe, whether by fluke or for a good reason, no team has ever won a WS with a rookie primary catcher, and given the Astros preference for veteran catchers since 2017, I don't think the Astros have much interest in trying to change that.

Brown hoped Diaz would get 300 PA during his rookie season. He will. He'll catch once or twice a week. He'll DH once or twice a week as Yordan gets back to playing LF part-time.

In the playoffs, Diaz probably won't catch much, if at all. He'll DH almost every day with Yordan/Chas/Tucker in the outfield (barring any new offensive trades or injuries).

The Astros will be leading the division in a week or two. They'll win the division by 5+ games doing it their way easing new players in, resting veterans, and playing their backups a ton as they have the past several years. None of this should be surprising and all of this, except the injuries, could have been predicted before the season started.

Fans will continue to whine about the Astros' terrible players, manager, and GM, while the Astros just keep winning at unprecendented levels in modern history. All of this is also completely predictable.

Considering Castro was his primary catcher until he was forced to retire...
