Man if max gets right and degrom comes back next year, that is a insane starting pitching
Max can suck in the reg season but after the world series against Nats, I am not looking forward to playing agains

While I'd do anything to have Kate and her cardigan back, I draw the pink line at Drew Gilbert. Can I interest you in Colton Gordon, NYM?

From what we saw in the Scherzer deal, the Mets value the prospect the most. They aren't just going to take whatever prospect we want to offer - they are going to want the guy they value the most. If the Mets are going to be flexible on the money side (which seems critical for the Astros), they aren't going to be flexible on the prospect also.

That's kind of my feelings on it as well. The ONLY way you make that kind of deal is if you are CERTAIN that the Astros are a Verlander away from a World Series and there's no other options that would lead to that same outcome.

Or if he was to be traded, it would be for someone a lot better than an over the hill Verlander.

Try Rodriguez for Meyers or Julks or maybe both and a Prospect.

    The go for gold.
    Hear me out.
Hicks, Montgomery, Carlson, Donovan and Contreras.
Cards pay 25% of Contreras contract spread out of the remaining.

Astros send Gilbert, Montero, Blanco, Bielak, Leon, Barber and Gordon. If we could get them to take Stanek that's a plus.

Contreras can play C, 1B, LF, RF and DH off the Bench.
    Resign Hicks for the BP
Resign Montgomery to be our solid Rotation LHP
Carlson can either go to AAA or we let him stay and back up everything in the OF
Donovan is the Key. He covers all INFIELD and LF RF and DH spots.
    Win win

If some how you get Brantley back then you choose Carlson down to AAA and when we can expand pull him back up

    https://theathletic.com/4731818/2023/07/30/mlb-trade-deadline-storylines-players-rumors/

    Rumors, rumblings and industry talk

    • The Orioles, Marlins, Rays, Astros and Diamondbacks have shown interest in Detroit starters Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen. The Tigers are looking for everyday position players in return and won’t be afraid to put Rodriguez and Lorenzen in the same deal if that delivers the prospects they want.

    • The Padres are more inclined to add around the edges than sell, but they are listening to offers on both Blake Snell and Josh Hader. Asking prices for both pitchers have been exorbitant, according to industry sources, as detailed this story by The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal.

    • The Cubs are more likely to buy than sell unless they are overwhelmed with offers for Marcus Stroman and Cody Bellinger.

    • The Nationals are more likely to trade Jeimer Candelario, Joey Meneses and Kyle Finnegan than they are to trade Lane Thomas. Sunday on my SiriusXM show, president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo said eight teams were in on Candelario and that when the Nationals are offered the right player, they will move fast and get something done. Rizzo also said Finnegan was garnering a lot of interest.

    • The Reds are open to trading Jonathan India if they can land a young, controllable starter with similar or less service time.

    • The Rays have been active in looking for trades that would improve their chances of winning a World Series this year. They are not shied away from big contracts nor trading top prospects.

    • Sunday morning on my radio show, Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos said the team is “not close” on any trades but will keep talking with other teams through Tuesday’s deadline. Anthopoulos added that Max Fried has made his last rehab start and is expected to start for the Braves as early as next weekend against the Cubs.

    • ETC.: The Yankees have prioritized adding a starting pitcher and an upgrade for left field. … The Red Sox are chasing a veteran starting pitcher. … The Astros are focused on landing a starting pitcher and a left-handed bat. … The Twins seek to improve their bullpen and add a complementary right-handed bat. … The Blue Jays want to add pitching depth in the rotation and bullpen as well as a complementary right-handed-hitting outfielder. … The Diamondbacks are more focused on future years than “going all-in” this season.

I think they are trying to win the World Series this year though

They aren't going to put themselves with Dubon and Kessinger at SS

Dubon was great in from April to mid June, but he has been horrible offensively since then.

Plus, as much as most people on here hate it, Pena has been really good batting in the 2 hole again this year. Just gotta hope Dusty ain't waiting for him to have a 2 HR game to move him down to 8 or some ****

    Agree with the last part

But Dubon doesn't have anywhere close to the upside that Pena has, not even close. Dubon had a good 2.5 months, not even great, just good. He seemed a lot better than he really was because of our expectations

I like Dubon as a utility guy, but trying to win it all with him at SS would not be good

I'd be a LOT more excited about the Astros if they managed to get Rodriguez or Lorenzen than if they just brought back Verlander.

I think Brown believes they can sign Framber and Bregman. I would be real surprised if he really thought they were signing Tucker

    Verlander >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lorenzen

Don't get me wrong, if we bring in Lorenzen that will help

But those two aren't in the same class. JV struggled with consistency when he first came back from the injury this year, but he has been dominant for the past month or so

And because he missed so much time early, he likely has plenty of innings left in him this year

Rodriguez is a very good pitcher but both he and Lorenzen are rentals. I would really prefer Houston to add pitchers with multiple years of control.

I would trade any 2 pitching prospects with Pena. The Astros simply don't have high impact arms.

Arrighetti may end up being a JP France level starter possibly a bit better, but not nearly the upside to prevent a Cease deal.

Verlander once upon a time, sure, but over 40 Verlander? I'm not so sure.

Also, if Verlander was going to be a rental, I'd like him more than the fact that we're stuck with him.

I would prefer a rental over being stuck with Verlander for potentially 2 more seasons though.
