Totally depends on how those teams view specific projects That’s why I said the other day that the market doesn’t “get set” by any trade MLB organizations view some of these prospects WAY different than the prospect publications So maybe to some the Mets “should have” got a lot more, but if Acuna is the guy they believe in and they are right, they may have done great Max can still have good starts, but he isn’t a frontline ace anymore
I don't think the Rangers got a good deal at all. They are having to give up a talented player and taking on an overpaid guy for two years. Would folks be thinking the rangers got a deal if we traded them Jose Abreu for Acuna? I bet the Mets are ecstatic to get out from under that contract that is already aging poorly.
According to them… MRI negative and the soreness is in the “good” part of the elbow. Eternal medical optimism….lol.
Would much rather Crane eat much of JV's salary and give up a Pedro Leon than Cohen eat it and give up Drew Gilbert, especially with JV north of 40 and already missing time this year. JV's got a vesting option for 2025 that turns into a player option with 140 IP, it's only a year and a half long deal if things go south. No reason to give up a 55/60 prospect to avoid.
How is he overpaid? The Rangers will pay $22MM for a 1.5 years of Scherzer. That's less than the Astros pay for McCullers. For a hall of fame pitcher who's having a bad half-season. It's not much different than the Astros trading for Verlander in 2017. Astros fans would be ecstatic if we got Dylan Cease, who's been worse than 2023 Scherzer this year and every other year of his career except 2022.
22 mil is a lot to pay for a #4 quality pitcher over a year and a half which is what Scherzer is at this point. As to Cease, he's also 27 years old AND his FIP suggests that his ERA isn't entirely his fault.
The White Sox as a team are worst in Total Zone, and second worst in DRS ahead of Oakland, and bottom 3 in every other defensive metric you can think of, usually in a league of their own with Oakland. Even going to the Astros' above average, but not spectacular *cough* Maldy *cough* Julks *cough* defense will improve those numbers.
Unless Crane has suddenly had a change of heart, it isn’t happening. The Astros would be hamstrung the next couple of seasons.
