The lineup Houston is fielding tonight is a championship caliber lineup and their bench is strong; I’d probably like a power lefty bench bat (or a 3rd catcher) for the playoffs but Houston has that in their farm in Singleton (and Salazar). This team needs a SP capable of starting a playoff game and maybe another RP. Verlander and Raley would be a nearly perfect trade to complete their roster. I’d say something like: Astros get: SP Justin Verlander RP Brooks Raley $23M Mets get: OF Drew Gilbert OF Ryan Clifford RHP Spencer Arrighetti RHP Forrest Whitley Playoff roster: 2B Altuve SS Pena DH Alvarez 3B Bregman RF Tucker 1B Abreu LF McCormick C Diaz CF Meyers Bench: Dubon, Maldy, Julks, Singleton Rotation: Framber, Verlander, Brown, Javier Bullpen: France, Maton, Montero, Stanek, Raley, Neris, Graveman, Abreu, Pressly Their offseason list would be replacing Maldy; Bielak, Urquidy, and Garcia can replace Maton, Stanek, and Neris.
He is very capable of going on a run after a trade to the Rangers. If in his last 10 starts he has an era of 2.50 or less, someone would offer him at least a two year deal at the same or more money. He is 39, he had the suspension and has miles - but I would have been excited had he joined the Astros.
The Rangers had to know that Scherzer wouldn’t do. They will have to do something to make it worth it to Scherzer.
I wonder what that was about? Scherzer refuses to guarantee option and Rangers complete the deal anyway. The Rangers gave up a top 100 prospect. I’m not as high on THIS Acuna as some others, but Mets got a nice farm system piece.
Good. When the rangers fail i want them to fail spectacularly. Have them leverage the future for 1 to 2 yrs of failure.
Other outlets are stating Houston and the Mets are working on a JV deal. Im struggling to see him leaving personally. I think these reports are just speculations.
Yeah. A prospect some people in baseball really like - but still. If Mets ownership paid 23 million, I’m curious to see how this impacts Verlander and the Astros.
