He got paid coming off injury. I'm not convinced he won't get paid again. He's not been terrible this year by any stretch. The ERA isn't great, but he's still got good underlying numbers.
There is one main thing that will happen if the Astros go get JV. Instantly this takes the pressure off of Framber of being an ace and perhaps settles down Hunter Brown as he continues to learn.
Hoping Rangers give up Acuna, Porter, and Carter for Scherzer. That would be a huge hit to their future.
I wonder if a high price for the Rangers to pay sets the price for JV as well, or if they'd be happy to part with JV for less to move on as long as he's willing to be traded to the Stros.

Yeah I have read the return is Acuña and Porter. Adding Carter to that would make it a brutal deal for the Rangers regardless of how much money NY is eating. The Rangers have an excellent farm system so they can somewhat afford to make a trade like that but that’s a huge haul for NY.
We will see. Scherzer went to ownership and said he wanted out. So far Verlander has not said he wants out. Will trading Scherzer change that?
I bet Dusty is campaigning that the Astros trade for Verlander so he can try and justify playing Maldonado over Diaz even more...
