I hate to say this, but it clearly isn't our year. Scherzer puts Arlington in the driver's seat for sure. We have nothing to give to do a blockbuster trade. Window isn't closed, but I think it is for this year.
Sums up my thoughts exactly. Window is closed, for this year. Can't have a GM with PISS soaked TROUSERS making no moves.
does it? Seager can’t stay healthy. They may have just lost their catcher for the season. They’re going to probably give up one of Duran or Taveras among others for Scherzer who likely (based on the Rangers pitching development history) isn’t going to attain his former peak. Their bullpen is still a mess. The rest of their rotation is showing major cracks
Oh ye of little faith…if the Astros are healthy come playoff time they are very dangerous. Winning the division is not the main goal
Sxherzer has a 4 era and 4.8 fip and is 127 years old. I like the idea of the rangers gibin my up real pieces for that.
This puts the Astros in one of two positions. Either they now have to go for it or they back off... At least we won't see a half-assed attempt at winning the division. We'll know if all they want is a play-in within a few days. I'd also like to see if the Rangers are willing to run him down to win the division and hope he doesn't have a dead arm by playoff time. If I had a choice on JV or Scherzer... I would choose JV.
Considering the money involved another Verlander deal is 100% up to Crane. Dana doesn't have the authority to just add 43 million to the payroll next year...
don’t know anything about prospects. How do they line up? Mets should ask for one of their ML players too
It doesn't feel like our year, but 2020 was that way and we were a game away from the world series. Get healthy and get another starter and we're on part with anyone.
That's what I eluded to earlier. Astros will not break the bank for anyone other than JV. They will shop their low range guys like Julks, Kessinger and Meyers and perhaps Uquidy (and hopefully Montero and/or Maldy) but will only get into their AAA piggy bank of high class talent for JV.
You obviously have NOT been paying attention over the past six yrs. WS aren't won on paper. If they were we'd have two more titles under our belt (WASH + ATL). There's also something to be said for playoff experience. Let's see how TEX (and a roster full of dudes who have never played in the postseason) play under the pressure of October. Also you obviously aren't someone who's up for a fight. You walk away and give up when you think things aren't in your favor. What a way to go through life.
