Was he terrible last season? Yes. Did he improve in the latter half of the season? Yes. Did he look great this summer league? Yes. These are not competing propositions.
Again, 15/7/1/1 the last 20 at 19 is solid. Not refuting how bad the first half was, but beyond that he kept showing growth. No idea why you like to bash 1st and 2nd yr players. Especially on a team you supposedly are a fan of. You supported a dude going into his 3rd and 4th that had only shown an ability to score sometimes and often hurt the team. ???
Can he do it against real NBA players? That is the question that will be answered this season. A former #3 pick (who was projected to go #1), after a year in the league getting over 30 minutes per game as a starter should be able to dominate G-leaguers and kids fresh out of college.
i mean he just did it against real nba players in his rookie season. showing he can be clutch w/ some dominant performances already under his belt. It's just a matter of putting it together more consistently. But 19 year olds aren't supposed to be consistent, especially not at the highest level. Going into year 2 is just another building block. There's still going to be inconsistency, still being a kid in year 2. Its just matter of lessening the gaps gradually as much as possible.
He also sucked in the same summer league last year. To me, the fact that he dominated the sams league he was terrible in the previous year shows growth. Ofcourse he won't have the same numbers in reg season but I am encouraged he will have a better season.
Being X years old isn’t an excuse if you can’t find enough examples to show that players X years old don’t struggle in the league. If not, then logic dictates it’s normal and expected for players X years old to struggle. What you want to see is growth, which he displayed last year and appears to have displayed this summer.
In this instance, it's being used as an excuse. The claim was that player Y performed terribly on both ends of the court, which is true based on objective metrics. That claim is being "countered" with a statement about player Y being X age. That counter argument is essentially "its okay that player Y was terrible because they were X age and all players who are X age are terrible.... that means player Y was actually awesome despite objectively being terrible" It's sort of an attempt at a dishonest rhetorical trick
Jesus you guys are fast - I was like, "let me be the first to post this since Spins just released it..."
Why did you support player Y (Porter) at age X (21/22) when he was a cancer on the team both on and off the court? Despite the BS, you gave him time, yet you ish on all the other young players. Even guys that are obviously better than he was at that age. SMH
KPJ at 22 just happened and he was arguably the most well rounded player on the team and by far the best shooter on the team.... If you're talking about at 21, I "supported him" meaning I didn't want him cut because I saw promise as a shooter while acknowledging his flaws.... that's not quite the same thing as the cults surrounding other young players
Porter in yr 2 and 3 at whatever age was a negative on and off the court. This is known. You still supported him and do not do the same for others on the team you're supposedly a fan of. Am I wrong? You talk about "cults"... That is hysterical. Do you mean fans? In it for the argument I assume.
That's because you only see things at face value and that is a shortsighted way to look at talent in a rebuild. No team drafts a player thinking that, that is the last or peak version of that player no matter how good their present version is. Projecting skill development and how to nurture that talent in the earliest part of a players career is a big part of it and you want to pretend that part of the process doesn't exist.
Again, there's a difference between "supported" meaning "doesn't think we should cut a player" and the delusional cultists that are already trying to put certain players in the HOF. Did I think they should have cut a 21 year old KPJ? No. Do I think they should cut Jalen, Jabari, or Sengun? No. So, by your logic, I support them all equally.
Dunno about others, but I am EXCITED to see what this kid can do! Other than KMJ, Bari was probably the quickest to pick up on looking to cut while Sengun had the ball in the high post or post was a very rewarding opportunity. Every time his man turned around to see if they need to help, Bari just runs in and looks for the pass.
This is what pissed me off the most about last season. We get a top 3 picked prospect coming in with awareness on the following points: Shoots well in motion (turns out way better than on C&S) Has a very nice turnaround in the high post Very mobile defender and shooter with high release point What did we do? Parked him in the corner to clank quite often poor kick out pass attempts. Cool, he's struggling to find his shot. What should we do? Run some pin plays? Some curls? Nah! Let him keep repeating that.
