I know this is a seller's market, but doesn't this feel like 2017 when we needed a big acquisition to really jump-start our momentum? I'm not savvy like you guys on baseball, but it seems like we need to put some big chips in the pile and bring back a really good SP (if not an ace) and a high end RP. I'm not as worried about hitting with Alvarez and Altuve back. Will probably come down to the end and Brown has to be looking for something to push us over the finish line and in to another WS. Let’s go Dana!
i think a significant addition or two are needed to win the world series this year. we should get in to the postseason with the team as is.
Is Goldschmidt possibly being shopped, too? Cardinals have some good infielders, like Donovan, Gorman, and Burleson (1B/corner OF), and if they're open to moving Arenado then they may feel the same about Goldschmidt for the right deal. He's a HUGE upgrade over Abreu defensively, although this does mean Alvarez would have to play much more LF. Just dreamin', but also curious.
Not to burst anyone's bubble but Abreu is our 1st baseman. Astros are not benching him in the first year of a 3 year contract while he's been productive for over half the season. If the Astros were willing to get rid of the players it would take to get a Goldschmidt, then they'd use that for pitching
Astros are mentioned as a team interested in Verlander- I believe he also listed the rangers as the “favorites” to land him
If JV ok's a trade to the Rags, I have to believe he realizes how much goodwill that would undo in this city. I know it's a business, but come the **** on.
Astros get: OF Jesus Sanchez SP Johnny Cueto RP Steven Okert Marlins get: C Korey Lee 3B Joe Perez OF Corey Julks
Johnny Cueto hasn't been that good in years... so it sounds like the perfect low-cost fit the Astros would look for
I can’t fathom snell and Hader getting a player of yanier Diaz caliber let alone having that be someone the astros have to add to. They are both in walk years and Diaz is a stud with 5.5 years of control left at the absolute hardest position to find a bat. That’s lunacy for the Astros to even consider that. I’d do the first deal and it seems completely fair.
