Come on dude. You know that's a bad opinion from you. Efficiency stats are always going to favor young bigs over young scoring guards especially young bigs who triple pump fake at the three point line when there isn't a defender in sight around him. Ya he's going to be more efficient because of that but it's going to severely **** up our spacing. I mean bigs in general are more efficient than guards. It's the nature of where they score.

You can have your opinion, but KPJ was injured a large part of last year. While out, Sengun played well but the team played its worst during this stretch. When Sengun played well we got clobbered. When KPJ came back we looked like another team. How are they equal?

Not close to the Max, and you don't know that about KPJ at all, if he keeps improving he will get his too.

But stop talking in absolutes about KPJ's contract KING CXBBY!!!!

    ROFLMAO - hypocrite !!!!

You literally just said for me to stop doing that, and you have been guilty of it all along....bet you didn't know that did ya?

Look up projection, you might learn something about what you are accusing me of doing....while you yourself are doing the same thing.

That one's probably more because of who was coming off the bench behind KPJ (Nix and TyTy) than because running the offense through Sengun is a bad thing.

Our bench was absolutely atrocious this past season. One of the things I'm most looking forward to the upcoming one is actually having a real bench squad.

Also I like how the usual dudes have turned this thread about FVV into the umpteenth "why don't people like my favorite player KPJ" thread...

Ironically I do like FVV - sorry for participating in that discussion......

FVV is a nice addition to this team - and will help particularly in ball protection defense and leadership.

Who’s chasing who. You quoted me. Or did your old age make you forget. All I do is laugh at your terrible posts. I don’t quote you because it’s that embarrassing with your 1,000 posts a day but today you felt the need to quote me when I wasnt even talking to you in the first place.

Or the "blame KPJ for everything" thread. The unwarranted criticism he gets is out of this world. Also the criticism Sengun NEVER gets (outside of a few ppl here) is ridiculous.

I'm basing it off both of their numbers and advanced metrics. I'll grant you I don't recall off the top of my head who was out when and who else may have been out. There are other factors that can contribute to win/loss record alone when someone plays or doesn't play.

KPJ's counting stats are better, Sengun's advanced stats are better, they come out about even IMO. Obviously the offense did not run through Sengun to the extent it did KPJ throughout the season.

Jalen is definitely trending up. He was awful his rookie year, one of the worst players in the entire league, which is why I was critical, especially considering who we passed up. Many on here fought with me about that take. The catch 22 is that either he wasn’t that bad his rookie year which means he stagnated last year, which is the view of many in the national media OR you agree with me that he was awful his rookie year which means he actually made a leap last year going to slightly below average.

Because I recognized how bad Jalen was year 1, I can also appreciate how far he has come in year 2. I don’t judge efficiency without context, Jalen’s usage went up in year 2 and was relied on to create a lot more, so even with the dip in efficiency his offense actually got much better. His overall impact numbers have gone from very bad (-4.3) to slightly bad (-1.4).

In terms of trajectory he is in the same boat as Sengun, the reason why I say Sengun is the closest one is because he is already good (+1.9), and improving just as much as Jalen. This has nothing to do with efficiency and everything to do with impact on winning, and Sengun has the clearest path right now to allstar caliber like Fvv (+5).

Green plays a lot more minutes than Sengun on one of the least experieced rosters last season. Playing more minutes with inexperienced and often low talent players like Nix means it's harder to maintain a a higher +/- than someone who has more limited minutes.

Green playing 35 minutes per game vs 29 for Sengun is very significant and probably the main reason to account for the difference in overall +/-

To be fair, a scoring guard being awful his rookie year in terms of winning stats is not exactly something unique to Jalen Green, many allstars have walked that same path. But even more players who stagnated at that level and never became allstars. After seeing his growth the second year definitely gives me more confidence that he will be part of that first group.

These numbers are not box score +/-, they are more advanced metrics that adjust for the 4 other guys they are out there with and the 5 opponents they are playing against. Bball index has a whole explanation for their methodology. It is the “holy grail” of all in one metrics to judge how good or bad a player is, with the caveat that no metric is perfect.

I don't think advanced metrics like BPM account for quality of talent around you. All it does is merge on/off +/- and box score numbers into an aggregate singular stat.

BPM does not. Both RAPTOR and LEBRON do(the stats I linked to), they are both based on Regularized Adjusted Plus Minus (RAPM), many of the creators of whom are working in front offices now.

    https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0237920

With that said as I said no single stat is perfect, and you do need to put these in context of what they mean. They measure a player’s impact on winning, but only in the role they are asked to play. For instance, a player can have allstar level metrics because of their impact on winning playing a certain role(Robert Williams for example), but if you ran the offense through him then he would become a negative player. The true allstars are the ones being used in an allstar role while still producing allstar level metrics.
