If true, this means the door is wide open, the only question is who is going to walk through it.

Seems almost impossible that there aren't more defections now.

Who are viable candidates that actually improve the conference? The AZ schools? Utah? Serious question.

Maybe TAMU and Arky are tired of being the little kid next door in the SEC and will also come crawling back? ;)

I think Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Arizona (or Arizona State... but not both) are additive.

Cal and Stanford would be in theory but they appear to want to operate more as ivies.

Big question is whether Oregon and UW locked themselves into the Big 12 or gamble the BIG comes calling eventually. Phil gives Oregon some flexibility here but UW has a big decision coming up.

Oregon, Washington to the B1G (makes a lot of sense, that's where I wanted UT and OU to go)...what happens to Oregon State and Washington State?

Can you get AZ without AZ State?

Yikes. That hurts. So I assume the big 12 might want to balance the conference and add someone else? Is that Memphis?

The BIg 12 GOR runs through 2030-31, which is when all the media deals renew again, so there's little risk for Oregon or UW in going with the Big 12 because it's unlikely the B1G will add before then (if at all).

Ore State and Wazzu are ****ed unless this thing somehow holds together at 9+1 members.

I assume you can get AZ without ASU but who knows. All I know is ASU and Utah have been the most anti-Big 12 people in the room for a long time, so if they get left behind, it would be kinda funny.

If they go back to fishing in the G5 the pecking order would be SDSU with UConn and Memphis battling it out to be tied for a distant second.

Yeah all the bball only stuff is definitely dead for now.

I just have such trouble seeing Uconn getting an invite until that football program gets its **** together.

Just for certain sports (ie hoops and the Olympic ones), so that doesn't do much for me.

I honestly wouldn’t mind Arizona next up out of the next group of choices

I think Arizona is number 1 if you can get them but Memphis is not bad if you can’t.

    Oh for sure.

    Big no thanks there.

The school, market, and timezone are all counterproductive.

Not to mention athletically you can expect a lot of personal fouls, if you know what I mean.

IIRC one of the issues with getting a deal done was Oregon/UW not willing to agree on a GOR exit fee with the PAC so they must of have thought or possibly still think the BIG door is open somewhat.

But on top of the money difference (which would be substantial), conceding to the Big 12 is a pretty big gut punch to their brand and what they’ve build IMO. Not knocking on the conference by any means but don’t think Oregon (mainly) and UW are jumping onto the lifeboat until the BIG shuts the door completely and definitively.

If George manages to land this plane it will be an out and out miracle.

Apparently the Big 12 asked that Colorado wrap this thing up by Aug 1 as a courtesy, which I suppose makes sense, they can now start planning their 2024-25 athletic calendar, etc.

I wonder, though, how much longer the door to 2024 will be left open for any more PAC defectors.

There is no 'deadline', per se, but at some point this Fall it has to become impractical to add anyone for next year.

That's got to be scary for the remaining PAC folks, because their deal ends July 2024...

My guess is if we don't hear of any new additions by Labor Day then 2024 will go on as is, and though we may hear of more later, they would only apply 2025 and beyond.

I'd be pleased as punch if it's pretty much anyone in the PAC short of Oregon State or Wazzu. I'd also gladly take SDSU.
