Today sucks. I don't care that it is just one game. I can still enjoy and have my heart riped out Temple of Doom style by one game.
I'm happy we took 2 of 3, a sweep would have been gravy so it doesn't bother me that we lost...but I am not happy about the way we lost. Our ace got creamed and the team got their asses whooped while the Rangers were having fun, showboating and talking trash. I wanted the Rangers to leave town feeling BAD about themselves and shaken, instead they are leaving feeling pretty damn good I imagine. Their confidence is up not down.
You are right. That sucks But big picture this series was a win. The Astros only need to win 1 of 3 in the final series to secure the Silver Boot and tie breaker. Altuve and Alvarez returned from injury. Only 2 games behind with 59 left. (A month ago they were 6 games back) The trade deadline is still ahead of us. I like this team's resolve and they can absolutely repeat if they get some pitching.
It totally sucks getting kicked in the nuts like the Rangers did us last night, but if it makes you feel any better, remember that we were horribly smacked by the Phillies in game 3 of the world series and that turned out ok.
He has been the GM what, 6 months? How can you possibly be down on him. Not like he has a record of failing at the deadline Sheesh
This series felt like the one the Astros had against the yankees but on the opposite foot. They beat us 2 out of the first 3 then Altuve finished that miraculous comeback in the 9th. Im not upset theyre celebrating, those fans needed that game to feel any kind of validation, but ****em. Heres to just hoping they dont go on a roll.
Not fair to Brown. He got the job in January after the offseason transactions were done. Other than the draft, which will be an unknown for at least a couple of years, he has had no opportunity to do anything. It will be fair to judge him in 5 days.
Astros were 10 games ahead of New York in that series. Astros won a close game to finish the series. Rangers whooped our arse. Very different circumstances when comparing those series
Brown can be judged a slight bit because Chapman was already traded and phone calls for other players have been made for weeks. Five days from now there's room for more judgment and he may or may not do well, but saying there's been no opportunity simply isn't true. I will say Brown has less ammunition than previous GMs because of the lost draft picks from the cheating punishment.
Nobody here wanted Chapman and thank God he isn't an Astro. Brown hasn't failed at anything until the trade deadline.
Link? Not saying he's failed... just sayin he has had opportunity. The pitching has needed help for weeks. The opportunity is not over yet.
There is no link. It's simply common sense. Chapman was hated as a Yankee, Quit on his team last year, has a history of domestic violence. What do you think the over/under is of questions about him and his history to Altuve for the next 2 months if he's here? How many times would Roberto Osuna and fomestic violence be mentioned on broadcasts whenever Chapman warms up or enters a game? After the Taubman fiasco, and the nature and history of the media, bringing Chapman in here would be a huge distraction and problem for the team. It's my opinion, but has been shared by others and I think it's pretty close to what others would say if given thought. It's nice to think people (and teams) can be forgiven and their transgressions forgotten but unfortunately if there is a possibility of getting clicks and extra viewers that never happens. As for Brown, the trade season is still very early. If any GM were judged now the majority would receive a failing grade.
Would've been nice to sweep and not get our asses kicked in the last game, but....whateves. Maybe it's a reminder to the Astros that our work is not done yet. Maybe it's a wake up call that it's not going to be as easy as we thought. No one is going to just lay down for us because we're the mighty Astros.
"Hated players" don't matter much when teams are trying to upgrade their situations. The worst thing about the Taubman situation was losing the World Series. Some of the Osuna hate was outsiders still reacting to the cheating scandal. Chapman isn't the only pitcher who's eligible for trade and the Astros have needed staff help for weeks. Again, your saying Brown has had no opportunity is a false statement. I'm not calling him a bad GM and I don't think he should be fully judged or even half-way judged. We'll see what happens over the next few days.
Of course Brown has had SOME opportunity. But my boss doesn't yell at me at noon if I don't have a job done that's due by 5pm.
