Make it happen. Those are the perfect 2 guys. It will hurt like crazy but this team, the 2023 team, needs it. Don't pay more than you have to but pay as much as you have to. These opportunities don't grow on trees and Altuve, Bregman, Framber, Tucker, and Pressly will all be FA after next year or 2025. Deal with 2024 when the season ends. I have never felt this way in the past. I have always been "be smart for the future" guy. But this season feels different. It's been decades since any team has repeated. This team is in position We only have so many chances left with this core of veterans. Crane wants a splash move and I think Brown should and will give it to him.
I would be happy with what Click did 2 seasons ago. I would like an inning eater starter just so we can give the other guys some rest to get right. Montero didn't look horrible last night so maybe he can right the ship. His velocity hasn't dropped from last season so I think there is still hope for him to recover. The Angels have notoriously overpaid for everyone which has resulted in wasting the value they got out of Trouts and Ohtani rookie contracts. Stupid franchise will be stupid.
Angels are even dumber now for not just trading Ohtani. Granted maybe they couldn’t find a team as dumb as themselves to trade with but still…the amount they would get back for him even as a rental would be stupid.
We just don’t have enough. The Rangers also desperately need a SP/RP and have way more assets to trade them. They also are more likely to make a ridiculous trade to get them.
I do wonder if Chicago trading Giolito (and apparently being close on a Lynn trade) with 6 days to go is a sign they really are shopping Cease and/or Robert.
I think they will surprise you. SD has spent heavily and will want to compete in 2024. That means young controllable MLB players are preferred to prospects. I think that gives the Astros leg up. Furthermore their 2024 rotation and infield is all but set, so they will be looking for bullpen help and outfielders/catchers which really play to the Astros strengths.
Yeah - he is only 20 years old. I question whether he stays behind the plate but it is worth the risk to the Sox.
They have been listening to offers for both for some time. Look at the age and level of the players they get back. Are they getting players that will help in 2024 or are they getting guys for 2025-2026? There are a lot of variables at play.
I'm fine standing pat. Injuries and some pitching regression have obviously plagued us this year but I love our offense. I'm fine finishing this year out as is. Hopefully some playoffs baseball, but if we can go into next year healthy and with Diaz as our full time catcher and Dusty retired - I'm good with it. Not a fan of the current rentals and not seeing much out there worth the players we have.
Based on the Giolito return they are gunning for 2025-2026 in which case I would consider it likely that at least Cease is traded. That would be really smart of them. Vaughn, Burger, Remillard, Montgomery, Ramos, and Quero gives them a solid group of controllable IF that should be up by then. Between Robert, Benintendi, Moncada, Jimenez, Cease, Kopech, Lynn, Clevinger, Graveman, Bummer, Middleton, and Kelly, they should be able to acquire a huge pool of potential star OF and P prospects.
Probably the best wins-above-replacement move we could make would be to trade Martin Maldonado for a pack of Marlboro lights. Gets him out of the lineup and prevents Dusty from benching Yainer.
With Framber and Javier not being as reliable as last year, and with McCullers hurt, I think we have to look aggressively towards starting pitching. Dylan Cease and Mitch Keller should be the targets.
Have a feeling Dana Brown is not going to be aggressive at the trade deadline. Most of the players are coming back next season and he'll have a full offseason to make trades and sign his players. The mess this offseason was not his doing. If it was maybe he would feel a need to make a bigger move to make up for it.
Hader to me is key. If we can nab him. Wow. He can be resigned and take Presslys spot. When his contract ends. To me Hader makes our bullpen deeper and we would just need to look at Keeping Neris and Maton and try and move away from Montero.
What's crazy is the Angels sending those guys and now that White Sox have them they are #2 and 5 in there system.
Angels aren't done looks like they are trying to get Canderlario from the Nats Also looking into Robertson from the Mets and another batvin the OF possibly Lane Thomas
