Y'all should be more compassionate about software updates. NBD.

On the serious, I really want mandatory retirement ages for our three branches of government. I realize that will probably never happen, and we'll just eventually have a bunch of senile 90-year-olds running everything.

But no, we don't need people over like 72 making critical decisions and handling big important jobs for us. We just don't. I don't want Feinstein or poor Turtle up there, and we shouldn't have Biden v. Trump, Stupor Bowl II brought to you by Depends.

Agist? I guess. I prefer reality-ist. Some countries have mandatory retirement ages in civil service jobs. Like, get out of the way and let some other people try the job for a while.

I agree, have them on some kind of advisory position within the party but something has to change. You don't get to stay in power just because you woke up this am. There should be a cap on all branches plus I believe on SCOTUS also, appointment for life is just that, you don't get to replace someone until they die, that's kind of messed up. Live by the rules the rest of us have to, by 65-70 you must retire. I mean dam, some of these folks have done this their whole life, go enjoy your retirement...................the power in Washington must be a hell of a drug for folks to hold onto it this tight.

I agree with the gist of your post, but not with the age range. People live healthy lives a heck of a lot longer than they used to. The age of 80 seems reasonable. I think Joe Biden should step aside for a younger Democrat. He won't, but I think he should.

Y'all don't need to vote for geriatrics. Vote for someone else. But if an 80 year old wins the majority, well, we chose that knowing the risks. Why should we change the rules to deprive voters of an option?

So that's how he is going to win in 2024. Stollen for everyone! Nothing beats a good stollen. Right @AroundTheWorld ? I guess it is Christmas in July.

Older folks vote consistently, not too surprising they vote for older politicians.

More people just need to vote instead of the apathy.

We have all kinds of restrictions on who can run for office. But nothing about fossils or a fitness for duty test.

And @Deckard, sure we are getting up there, but name me a profession where someone is better and more qualified for their job at 80 than 70. I cannot think of one. Not even pickleball.

It isn't whether someone is "better and more qualified for their job." Heck, I would have preferred someone else over Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee in the last election, but there were plenty of people, including members here who won't call themselves Democrats, but almost always vote that way (unlike myself - I'm a Democrat), who wanted Bernie Sanders heading the ticket.

Guess what? Bernie is older than Joe by a year. Yes, he likes to call himself a "Democratic Socialist" in the vein of the European parties on the Left, but he ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016 and 2020. I like Bernie, and I didn't vote for Joe in the primaries (I voted for our very young Secretary of Transportation), but Joe ended up with the nomination, I voted for him and he trounced Mister trump, thank goodness.

We have a weird system. Social media has had a terrible influence on it, in my opinion, making it easier for foreign powers to interfere in our elections, which Russia did in 2016, and making it easier for American politicians to spread their lies among the Body Politic. I don't like it, but that's how it is. We have a Supreme Court with a right-wing majority that, thanks to Roberts, made it far easier for corporate money and the richest Americans to influence our politics. I don't like it.

Putting all that aside (thanks for suffering through it), explain to me how restricting the age of candidates in Federal elections would work. Wouldn't it take an amendment to the Constitution?

He's such a slimebag. Rudy, Trump, and Roger Stone are such disgusting lying pigs. It's no wonder they were so tight. They should all be in prison.

Remember folks, if there's a massive system that has bad features that frequently results in undesirable outcomes - including the fact that its main bad feature is its difficulty in change - it's your individual personal fault for not changing the system.

Biden as an 80 yr old is more 200x more progressive and innovative in governoring than Obama was who was young and hip. I really don't get people's obsession with age nd personality versus accomplishments.

In sports the only thing we care about is stats. I don't care how ugly or old a player is as long as he can hoop and put up good numbers.

If Kamala has to replace him I have no choice but to vote for the incumbent regardless of age. I believe we'll see younger candidates after this Presidential round. Everyone is sick and tired of the geriatrics falling on steps or unable to walk up ramps or inciting insurrections.
