I think you misunderstand, I'm not arguing that he's good offensively or deserves anything. I'm arguing the logic of the situation.

Brooks said he was unhappy on the grizzlies because they wanted him to be a 4th/5th option, and he did not want that. He decided to leave the team. He speaks with the rockets, with Udoka, and then chooses to sign with the rockets, and says he is happy to be here. Doesn't logic dictate that he is under the impression that he will be a top 3 option here? That he won't be 4th or 5th?

And if not, why? Someone please explain it to me. I see people saying they don't think this is true, so I'm just hoping someone can help me out and make it make sense.

If this is the case DB probably requests a trade. I mean he wasn't even happy being the 4th option on the Grizzlies.

This signing is a ****ing disaster unless Brooks just becomes. 3 and D guy

Ok. But I think a lot of it was not publicized.

I think the Memphis org was already viewing him as expendable and given the Ja situation they needed a guy who can step it up offensively and efficiently at that.

What I meant it, nobody is listening what a 4th or 5th option is saying, I doubt anybody cares about him that much.....

The Rockets are not a normal organization by any means so I am not surprised.

Wouldn't it make sense that the rockets overpaid partly because he wanted a more featured role on offense and the rockets wouldn't give it to him? Reports have started mentioning he had some interest from a couple other teams, so maybe the rockets needed to overpay in order to get him knowing it was simply to focus on defense and become a three and D guy.

Thanks, this is a good answer, I didn't think of this.. It's definitely a possibility. "How much do we have to pay you to be content with being a 4th option? 75mil? 80? 85? Okay, great. Sit your ass in the corner."

The thread that will never die. Even 5 years from now, supposedly dead, lightning will strike and, lo!, it will rise like Jason Voorhees, ready to kill again.

Jabari getting a decent shot up anywhere on the court is better than any other option on this team. Alpy is probably second, Amen at the rim is probably third and Jalen is fourth. Jabari showed in Summer League what he's supposed to be. He can reduce the other team to ashes if he's given the green light and the right scheme. Jabari off of curls is pretty much two points GGs better luck next time. Like those Chris Paul middies where he killed the Utah Jazz with death by a million cuts.

The reason to think that could be the case is that on average ages 27-32 are the best of a player's career. On the other hand, his age 27 season was hot garbage, so maybe he will be the exception to that rule and will get worse in his prime years.. I wouldn't be surprised...

Sure. It all depends on how much of a grip Ime and Ben Sullivan have on Fred and Dillon and their shot attempts, shot selections.

I think it’s actually 20M (like 19.9). It won’t look as bad in year 4 with cap increases but it’s still a lot for a suspect roll player. All he has to do is play hard, and bring an edge of toughness to this young team for that contract to be worth it imo. We may have overpaid for an enforcer. But our young guys, particularly Jalen, looked like they needed to be “toughened up.”

He’s just SO bad that even if he improves, he’s still gonna suck. That’s the sad part

Brooks is a similar player to Lu Dort and gets paid a similar % of the cap. No one cries about Dort being on a bad contract, I don’t see the issue here.

well of course it's a win for him personally. nobody else was giving him anything remotely close to that. It's a classic situation of right place right time. Rockets desperate for vets and open cap to spend. Brooks readily available after being dropped. Doesn't mean it's a win for the rockets in terms of value. It's an overpay for a mediocre player.

Is the joke on 'NBA twitter' or is it on the Rockets? More on this developing story in 2024.

Does Dort say idiotic things and take bad shots? I honestly don't know.
But I'm just contributing to beating a dead horse here.

Let's see the man play with our new coach and hope for the best. At least he can D up.

They are definitely maybes. Even maintaining the same level of performance is a maybe.

I think the answer is in the description "defensive specialist". He's not a defensive specialist, he plays all the types of defense you need to play for his position. Udoka is a Spurs guy and they understand that defense is half of all possessions, so being the 2nd best defender at your position is extremely valuable. The other players on that All Defense second team make between $17.5m (Derrick White) and $32m (Bam).

So basically on half the possessions he's excellent and in the other half he sucks but can improve with better shot selection. Don't think it's fair to reduce that to something called a defensive specialist.

    Say idiotic things…who cares?
Take bad shots…they score at a similar efficiency. If Dort doesn’t take bad shots that makes him actually worse, at least a coach can attempt to cut down on the bad shots.
