That's not a rumor of an actual conversation... only suggesting he could be a fit.

And the Astros are good with Abreu. Cron would be marginally the same at a cost which doesn't make sense when their need is pitching.

Abreu actually has outperformed Cron in the clutch

    Abreu
    2 outs .295
    2 outs, RISP, .400
    RISP, .265

    Cron
    2 outs .242
    2 outs, RISP .310
    RISP, .241

Also Abreu has done well since June 1st batting around .280 .325 OB%, 7 HRs, 31 RBIs. Not bad for 2 months.

Is there anyone on the Rockies active roster (not counting relievers) that could make the Astros roster once Alvarez/Altuve/Urquidy are activated? Do they have a spare catcher?

They have a good starting catcher.

Diaz? They had Diaz catching when we played them. He did not look like a good defensive catcher (i.e., piss poor), but his hitting stats looked nice on El Grande.

I think this is a great move for the Astros. Rays and Astros have both been linked to Stroman and Lorenzen..so it takes a buyer off those guys.

If we get Urquidy back and add another starter, then we can have Bielak to the long reliever role. Depending on who we get as the starter, we could have Urquidy and JP in the pen during the playoffs.

If we get a starter like Stroman/Cease and a guy like Graveman. We would be cooking with gas.

If we also add Bellinger and Montero gets his head out of his ass, then we would be have jet fuel.

    Altuve
    Bregman
    Alvarez
    Chas
    Tucker
    Abreu
    Diaz
    Bellinger
    Pena

    Bench
    Dubon
    Meyers
    Jullks
    Maldy

    Starting rotation
    Framber
    Stroman/Cease
    Javier
    Brown

    Long relievers
    JP
    Urquidy
    Bielak

    Pen
    Pressley
    Abreu
    Neris
    Maton
    Graveman
Montero(if he gets his head out of his ass)

Bellinger would be a great 4th outfielder off the bench. I'd definitely play him every 5 days or so to give McCormick a break in CF ;)

Say we get a stud starter . . . I think JP has earned consideration and push Javier to the pen.

I will say the Bellinger reemergence has been surprising to me. For a guy that was so great his first three seasons and a guy having such a great season this year, he still has a career wRC+ less than Chas. Bellinger's career OPS is better, but he got to hit flubber balls for 3-4 years.

It would be funny to get Bellinger as he's hit LHPs much better than RHPs this year. Though, he has still hit RHPs well enough that he easily would play against RHPs in the Astros lineup.

I have a feeling that if the Rangers lose tonight, Chris Young is going to swing for the fences. There's a lot of pressure on them.

I expect that regardless of the result tonight. The Rangers are an older team than the Astros. It would likely bold very well for the Astros in the future if the Rangers burn some prospect capital this year, and that the Rangers miss the postseason. I'm not sure the Rangers have ever done it, but going all in and then missing the postseason seems like it is the most Dallas thing ever (all pomp and circumstance, no substance).

I'm not sure about that. With DeGrom injured, and a ton of newly effective guys in their lineup, I think they may pick up a marginal player for need but not overspend. There's no real expectation for them to win games like the Mets have.

Micheal Lorenzen would be a Perfect Emergancy SP and a Bad A BP arm. He has 6 Pitchs and could also Be a PH if need be.

That's where I am at with this. Price could be high, but I would hate for them not to make a deal because of Gilbert. I'm not suggesting making a trade to make a trade or overpay. I also think price will start to come down 24 hours before the deadline. There are several teams in the hunt and there are only three spots. For an example, the Yankees could punt the trading deadline altogether if they cannot make any ground this week.

That’s the thing, I don’t really see a “swing for the fences” option even being available. Ohtani won’t be traded. Neither will any of the Padres stars. Unless the Mets move Scherzer/JV or the Sox move Robert I don’t see any superstars even remotely available.

They have been linked to be one of the most aggressive teams on the market right now looking to upgrade.

When I mean swing for the fences for them, I'm talking about them making moves to rebuild their bullpen and at least add a starting pitcher. I don't see how the Angels are going to move Ohtani.
