Why do you assume that no other teams wanted Brooks just because you didn’t hear about it? Do you really think we paid him 20M when we could have had him for 10? You don’t think we did any due diligence or had any intel on other teams going after him?

Hopefully this is true. If DB takes more shots than anyone else on the starting roster with any regularity though, I am going to be pissed.

Again, I hope you are right. But all the things you listed are just maybes.

Also, if Udoka pushed the FO to get Brooks at all cost, I would put a huge question mark on how the FO works with this coach. If Udoka wants to use Brooks as the 5th option and as a defensive specialist, then there are cheaper alternatives out there.

The cost is not just the big long-term contract Brooks is given, but all the maneuvering, giving up assets, to make the sign and trade work. All that for a PJ Tucker with an attitude?

I doubt it, Udoka probably had 3-4 candidates that he wanted, and he got 1 or 2 of them.

I cannot imagine Dillon being a dream guy for any coach......

It makes the most sense to have Brooks as the 5th option as Sengun, Green, Jabari have to grow.

Fred is the stop gap, probably has the green light.

The future relies on it. Just forget about the contract, the money is already spent.

What are the contract incentives? Stay under X ejections and Y shots taken?

Why couldn't the grizzlies trade him for 2 years if there was so much interest?

Brooks is already the best defensive player on this team. 20 Mill is chump change these days.

who knows. We aren’t privy to every trade or contract discussion. The absence of evidence is not evidence itself.

the 4th year is 17 mil something i think. As I keep reading the cap increases are coming. That 4th year will be nothing in that regard.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying that you think the report is fake? Or do you think he left Memphis because he didn't want to be a fourth/fifth option, but was told he will be a fourth/fifth option here, and is fine with that? Or did Udoka lie to him?

This whole thing is just so damn depressing. It’s pretty clear that udoka pushed for brooks, which means that 1. Our coach is a moron and 2. Our coach has way too much front office control. Both are a disaster

My guess is that Green leads the team in shot attempts still. But I predict FVV, Smith and Brooks will all be bunched together a little bit below him in the low double digits as our 2nd-4th in attempts per game. Ideally Brooks wouldn’t be in our top 5, but we will see.

So, I was curious to find something out. Apparently the average cap increase per season has been $6.8M the past five years. If that holds true, the cap would go up to $156.5M by the end of Brooks' deal. That would put his cap percentage that final year at 12.8%. I think that is nearly 2x what a replacement-level player like Brooks should be paid, but it is not a crippling contract. And, to be fair, his next 2-3 years should be the best of his career if he follows the typical trajectory, so perhaps he will improve a bit over his career averages... maybe.

This is my guess on the number of shots taken by the team this year:

    1) Jalen
    2) Bari
    3) FVV
    4) Sengun
    5) Porter
    6) DB

If DB ends up taking more shots than either of Bari or Jalen then that's an indictment on Udoka. Means he's getting out-schemed.

Porter is getting more shots up even as the 6th man, naturally guards have the ball more in their hands.

And Bari is taking shots away from Alpe.

There’s no reason at all to think that at age 28-30 he will improve. Outside of his fluke age 26 season where he was bad but not awful he has not improved much at all. I would expect him to be the same or worse the next couple years

I do not think he has the accolades to demand anything on the Grizzlies.....is he a star player, has he made an All Star appearance?

He made the Play Offs 3 times and that is about it, and was on the Defensive team.

I welcome everyone to turn into a Brooks fan but I will not be.

    Welcome some controversies.

Way too much attention on a guy who is a 12-15 ppg with good D type of player.
