https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4869/onoff#tab-team_efficiency https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4865/onoff#tab-team_efficiency Green does more to help an offense than Giddey. Replace Green with Giddey and have Giddey do Green's role and see how his efficiency plummets even more. Amen has something that Green has and that's elite dribble seperation. Giddey doesn't have that. So no, I don't think Giddey just fixing his jump shot solves it. Green's higher ts% has more to do with significantly higher ftr and that has more to do with his elite dribble separation. So it isn't even the shooting that makes Green a bigger offensive threat. It's his ability to break down defenses. Giddey isn't the one doing that at any consistent level on his team.
You don’t have to defend every perceived slight against Green. He’s a scorer. He doesn’t have the ability to facilitate or rebound like Giddey does and will never have the size. Giddey has no issue getting by his guy or a dribbling issue. They’re completely different types of players. Giddey with a 60%* TS percentage is a top 20 player in the league. If Amen shoots that well he’s a top 5 player in the league.
Oh for sure, I like Giddey as a player, I'm just saying it's crazy that people act like Jalen's some huge bust but he's still clearly one of the top performers of his draft class. He's also by far the player in his draft class who's shown the most ACTUAL star potential, in that he's had those kind of big moment games more than the rest of them combined...
Yes, I mean rebounds and assists are important, too, and Giddey gets them in bunches, unlike Green. Generally, I tend to like Giddey, he’s improving rapidly and looks like a pretty good player. However. I can’t claim to watch a lot of OKC and so I dug deeper a bit into his more advanced numbers, and they are pretty mixed bag. His +/- is pretty bad, and to me that matters a lot. So I’m thinking I’ll be gently stepping OFF the Giddey bandwagon at the next stop. That overhyped 2021 draft looks more and more like completely blah…
No dude. Giddey is what we call a "connector". He isn't the primary point of attack guard who breaks and collapses defenses. Think of him as a Chandler Parsons with great court vision. Parsons on the Rockets wasn't breaking the defense down with his dribble seperation. He allowed more talented players in that regard doing that(Harden primarily but even Lin) and then taking advantage of his defender not being set to attack. Again, Amen can be a primary pt of attack guard because he has that ability to break down defenses constantly. The reality is Green generates more open teammates than Giddey. Green might have worse vision or concentrates on scoring first more but he's creating more open teammates regularly through his ability to collapse defenses. Does he miss them often and try to do some crazy finish at the rim instead? Sure. But his maturity to stop doing that and find the open man he created is a much more likely to improve than Giddey magically gaining innate qualities he was never known to have like elite seperation.
Cutting can be learned. It's not that hard. It's mostly about timing. If you have a system in place, the timing can be practiced.
In one of PG's recent podcast he was saying how cutting is very hard and it's one thing he is very bad at it. He said knowing how and when to cut is a really hard skill to learn that even he thinks he can't do it. I believe it was in the podcast with Tyrese.
Sure. Just understand whatever praise you have for Giddey, it's somewhat inflated by being on a better team as I showed you. His team actually does significantly better when he's off the court especially offensively. I just can't see someone who is supposed to be a offensive playamking savant having such horrible impact on their team when they are in the court. I mean for goodness sakes, Giddey is in the 13th percentile in team on/off offense efficiency while Green is in the 85th percentile in the same exact stat.
You can quote whatever stat you want. I like Green, Giddey still offers more. We will see who ends up better
And for the record, I do believe if Green ups his efficiency and offers a little more in other aspects he’s a top 5 player in the game upside too
Giddey doesn't offer "more" unless you are purely accounting for just number of things he can do rather than number of things he can do at a high level. Green will be a better scorer than anything Giddey will excel at himself. The gap between playmaking will close because what Green needs to improve on to make him a better playmaker is more teachable through reps and experience and maturity of getting older while what Giddey needs to improve on to improve is more innate qualities that are harder to pick up through experience. What is the point of being all around if your impact on the court is some of the league worst?
I don't know what's to argue here. Everyone's role in the tweet is the same, being a sophomore in the league. Be happy that 2 rockets are good sophomores. Great company to be in and that's with Green having awful shooting nights and Alpi not improving his freebies. bad shot selection doesn't equate bail out shots.
Nope. That's not what I mean by role. When the shot clock is running out on the Raptors and the player with the ball can't create a shot do they instinctively give to Scottie Barnes to bail them out? No it's probably FVV or Siakam who has that burden. Stuff like that is what I mean by "role". Trey Murphy for example has a different role than Green. He's not crest hardly any of his own offense.
Bad shot selection has multiple reasons. Yes Green takes bad shots but a lot of those definitely bail ours because someone like KJ had the ball in his hands with 7 seconds left and can't create a shot on his own and throws it to Green. That happens a lot.
Grenade I wonder if Nuggets in 2015, had Jalen and Amen, the higher ups would feel the same. I think they would. Nothing was impressive about Jokic at age 20. Mudiay was the other 19 yr old and 7th pick in the draft who was showing more potential than Joker.
This Bradeaux guy posts lots of meaningless stats but this should make top 3 for sure. 1) he is including age 22 because hedo and ilyasova played their second seasons at age 22. Otherwise it would be too obvious that there is actually nobody else on the list 2) He omits Kanter, who actually is born and raised in Turkey and was a Turkish at age 22(who is actually the only real competition coming to the nba at a similar age) 3) and generally the under 21 years old lists are totally bogus because nba just started drafting younger players regularly. The competition is usually very limited. If you are taking minutes on a bottom team, you'll generally should be the best in every stat in terms of totals.
