Every year, an all-NBA veteran signing a max extension will become the highest ever paid player. That's just how it works since the cap increases significantly every year. There are gonna be 100M/year guys within the next decade. Contracts should be assessed as % of cap rather than raw value.

I wasn't aware that everyone who won a media-decided award should get the largest contract in the NBA. I guess I don't have common sense.

However I look forward to him threatening to sit out and force a trade to where he wants to go in 2024 now that he got this bag.

you should be aware. its old news. when players make all nba, they're getting super max. that's been one of the biggest reasons and incentives to do so. they worked for it, they earned it

and when the next young player makes their first all nba, the same thing will happen. common sense. it isn't going anywhere

Just wait until the Saudis decide to get into pro basketball.

Good thing the rest of society doesn't have to deal with ridiculous income inequalities like this, right? o_O

It’s better to think of contracts as a percentage of the cap.

The cap goes up about conservatively 5% every year (I heard 7.5% on a Lowe Post pod).

The problem with it is the Saudi players do not have a foundation like in soccer, they are No. 4 in Asia.

The Sheikhs rather watch 11 humans running after a ball right now... they think star players will make their home grown talents better.

The oil money could actually solve famine in Africa lol.....

The Saudis managed to shake up the world of professional golf in a 2-year span. They weren't exactly known for being huge golf fans before that. Don't underestimate what a shlt-ton of $ can accomplish when a country is trying to buy its way into respectability.

Player salaries are driven by revenue, they are not what drives an increase in cost.

are you aware that it's structured in the CBA that All-NBA bumps up how much you can receive as salary?

Largest contract means nothing, there's a new "largest" contract every year because the cap is increasing. His contract is going to be surpassed very soon as more players are up for extension.

Yup, but not only them. Qatar and Emirates were pouring tons of dough into infrastructure.

    With mixed results.

I give them that the Saudis yielded the better sports results for now.

Buying oversea stars does not necessarily make the national team that much better, all in time.

You can only naturalize 1 player per team I guess. Thus FIBA rules.

Unless you naturalize 40 year old Lebron, 32 year old Doncic, 25 year old Wemby, 35 yr old Embiid.

I agree, I'm just saying that the Saudis have the ability to drive sports contracts to obscene, never-before-seen levels. And they've already decided it's a path toward burnishing their tarnished world image.

Just because you can pay a player the supermax it doesn’t mean you should. I understand why the Celtics made this decision as they are a contender over the next few years and are going “All In.” I am glad the Rockets won’t be the team paying him the Supermax.
