Good thing that Biden passed the Inflation Reduction Act which is scaling up facilities in the Salton Sea where we have the capability to supply almost all of the lithium ion batteries we need for our electric cars. That way we don’t have to worry about funding slavery while limiting our carbon footprint.

The largest producer in the area is scheduled to be in full production by 2025.

    Thank you Joe!!

This is exhibit A. why you should think twice about defending your tribe on any and everything. You end up making dumb comparisons like this and look worse:

Yes this just seems odd continuing to defend and rationalize this. Even Ron DeSantis has backed off defending this.

Yeah these guys deserve gold medals for the mental gymnastics on display here.

Can you imagine if the curriculum mentioned how Pearl Harbor "had some benefits" for the people who were bombed?

Remember when Bill Maher pointed out that the 9/11 hijackers were cowards for flying buildings into planes, what's cowardly is lobbing missiles from a distance - they got so upset they canceled his show!

It's really as simple as that. This shouldn't even be controversial.

But certain leftists want to make sure that nothing could possibly get in the way of identity politics, and portraying some people as victims, and victims only, and forever, instead of acknowledging their heroism in developing agency and defying their circumstances - while wanting to make sure that whites ONLY get portrayed as evil perpetrators so that even their descendants generations later must feel collective guilt, forever.

after ABC news decided not to air its interview with Allen, Fox News interviewed him.

forget the fact that this is Fox News. Just listen to interview with Allen.

This academic is an honest man. Kamala Harris is a hysterical idiot with an agenda.

Funnily enough, I hadn't seen these interviews, but the way he is explaining it is exactly how I read it (and posted it on this thread). But it's literally true that the hateful leftists have an agenda and come up with BS out of thin air, just to smear DeSantis.

‘Categorically false’: Black member of Florida curriculum group fires back at Kamala Harris’ criticism

A prominent civil rights figure who helped craft Florida’s African American history standards has blasted Vice President Kamala Harris’ assessment of the curriculum as “categorically false.”

Dr. William Allen, former chairman of the US Commission on Civil Rights, says Harris was way off when she claimed in a speech last week that the standards suggested slavery was beneficial to black Americans.

“The only criticism I’ve encountered so far [on the new curriculum] is a single one that was articulated by the vice president, and which was an error,” Allen, who is black, told ABC News in footage touted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary.

“As I stated in my response to the vice president, it was categorically false. It was never said that slavery was beneficial to Africans,” said Adams, who was on the working group that helped devise the curriculum.

The Florida Department of Education unveiled its revised instruction standards for African American studies last week.

The state had previously rejected a pilot Advanced Placement course on African American studies because of concerns from the DeSantis administration about discussion of communism and authors who wrote about so-called critical race theory, among other gripes.

Florida’s African American History Standards Workgroup was tasked with trying to help rectify those concerns.

Shortly after the new standards were revealed and approved by the Florida Board of Education, a major state teachers union railed against them.

The Florida Education Association issued a lengthy statement alleging that the “new standards require middle school students to be taught that the experience of slavery was beneficial to African Americans because it helped them acquire skills.”

This is a reference to a benchmark clarification in the new standards that says “instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”

Williams told ABC, “It is the case that Africans proved resourceful, resilient and adaptive and were able to develop skills and aptitudes which served to their benefit, both while enslaved and after enslaved.”

He and another member of the working group, Dr. Frances Rice, added in a joint statement: “Florida students deserve to learn how slaves took advantage of whatever circumstances they were in to benefit themselves and the community of African descendants.”

As part of the outrage over the new standards, Harris, the nation’s first black vice president, traveled to Florida toward the end of the week and forcefully rebuked the changes, which were unanimously approved by the board.

“They want to replace history with lies,” said Harris — whose boss, President Biden, is running for re-election, while DeSantis hopes to face off against the Democratic candidate as the Republican nominee.

“In the state of Florida, they decided middle school students will be taught that enslaved people benefited from slavery,” the veep claimed.

DeSantis has underscored that he was not directly involved with the formation of the new curriculum.

But he has built a political brand on wading into the culture wars and mounting a crusade against “wokeness.”

He has widely polled as the second-place candidate in the 2024 presidential field, with Donald Trump easily leading the pack.

I can't imagine what goes through the mind of some people just before they say such insultingly stupid things out loud...

Nothing about being in a concentration camp is positive just like nothing about being a slave is positive. If you feel like you have to justify this opinion, you have serious issues that you need to do a deep dive into.

I have to admit I didn't realize this is an African American history course, which was stupid because i was like how are they covering all that. The course covers the conditions of slaves. When evaluating the total course it's not trying to say slavery wasn't that bad. It's a small true talking point that tries to show how some slaves were able to exceed their circumstances.

We are obviously jaded by DeSantis and his war on woke teachings but this isn't trying to minimize what slaves endured. Everything is well covered and it can be argued that teaching some slaves exceeded their circumstances can help other races have a higher opinion of Blacks. I think all the kids are probably smart in the class so the Black kids don't need affirmation.

Now the race riot teachings are another issue, I would like to see the historical evidence

Are you sure? See Viktor Frankl!

He tapped into his innate inner strength (positive) to overcome the hellish treatment while he was in the camps. People could really learn from him, especially as they prepare for the next round of camps.

Joking aside, I think people who advocate for finding the ‘positive’ aspects of a hellish situation need to be very clear about the reality of the situation and how people handled it, focusing on resiliency and adaptiveness rather than how they personally benefited, as there were none.

Interesting to see Kamala Harris mentioned so much in this thread and on Fox News.
