We won in spite of him last year. This year we don't have the on-field talent to overcome Dusty's stubborn incompetence.
Anybody listening / paying attention yet??? Losing / dropping a game in a series to some of the worst teams in baseball (the A’s, Rockies, Angels) like it’s commonplace. Jim— where’s our stud pitcher(s)? Dana— why you willing to let the other person w your initials keep this team in the porta-$hitter? Bend, don’t break— something’s gotta give.
But we have to change that line of thinking. We ALL know it's going to have to be done sooner or later. Better do it now before he wrecks this franchise. Best thing would be demand staff changes. He will fire himself like he did at Cincinnati. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/baker-challenged-reds-gm-if-you-want-to-fire-someone-fire-me/
He's not going to be fired. He will retire in the offseason. He does not have a contract. Then the Astros will have a huge celebration day sometime next summer to thank and remember him. Give him an orange and navy Rolls or something. Joe Espada will be the manager next year but Dusty will be in charge all the way until they are eliminated this year.
I seem to recall people were saying the same thing last year, and lo and behold, he he is managing another year. It would not surprise me if he is given another year by Crane, who, from all appearances, seems to think he is a good manager. By the way, didn't he say something about wanting to keep managing? So I don't think retirement is certain.
Then I will be the happiest fan in the world!! And we will be having these same discussions again all next year. But Joe Espada will be managing somewhere else.
The team also had no GM when Dusty's last contract was signed. Hopefully with Dana at the helm things will be different this time.
I could't stand Chandler Rome as a beat writer , but he really did force Baker's hand with Chas's playing time with that article. It's sad that Chas still has less at bats for the season than Meyers and Maldy.
This. The fact that Dusty refused to give McCormick and Diaz (to a lesser extent - I get favoring a veteran catcher over a rookie - but it's Maldy for F's sake) regular playing time I think really hurt the team and potentially cost them games. McCormick proved a lot last year and in the playoffs so it was pretty puzzling that he was still relegated to competing with the crowded outfield for playing time. It just felt like Dusty didn't like/trust him -- I remember after "the catch" in the World Series, Dusty acted pretty surprised that McCormick made the catch; saying something to the effect that McCormick always bragged of his hops from his basketball days and maybe it was actually true... whatever the issue was, he should be the starting CF from now on, or at least in the outfield if Myers is playing. And for the love of all that is holy, Diaz should be getting 80% of the remaining starts going forward at catcher. Maldy can play coach from the bench - but the Astros need to get back in their juggernaut groove and get ready for the playoffs.
Can you imagine the line up below Altuve 2b Pena ss Bregman 3b Yordon dh Tucker rf McCormick cf Abreau 1b Diaz c Dubon lf
This is definitely the stupidest post I have ever read on this forum. Dusty is managing this year because we won the World Series. I get irritated by his idiotic decisions almost as much as the people that b**** about them. But anyone that wants something different than last year…where we won the World Series? I basically want Dusty to manage forever since the only way he keeps his job is if we win it all.
