Or just do not flaunt your hits and hide your misses........we all have been there but some have been there more than others.
I liked AB0. If there hadn't been a poorly-timed lockout and he had stayed healthy, I think he might have carved out a fine career as a Lou Williams-esque 6th man. But yes, Lowry (and soon after, also Goran Dragic) was ultimately the better player, and that's because defense matters, basketball IQ matters, desire to win matters, toughness matters. Same stuff applies to KPJ. It's a lesson I learned well after watching those three's career arcs. Stop getting sucked into the Chandler Parsons, Christian Wood type of guys. Pay attention to the intangibles. They're incredibly important.
Aaron Brooks career ended on a Ginobli dirty play. He could've had the same career Lowry had. It was bad luck not about talent
I think they are about equal in production, but FVV is a slightly better NBA player at 29 than KPJ....but not worth his contract..... DD
I still liked a healthy Brooks, but his career was ruined by Manu Ginobli's foot......Brooks was better with Yao....IMHO. Like Lowry too, btw, just liked Brooks more. FVV is no Lowry.....come on now, that is a stretch......FVV is a decent NBA Combo guard, good on D, good ball protection, better off the ball as a catch and shoot player. Smart, productive safe. DD
Slightly better is just so wild to see someone type, like how can you do that with a straight face? Unless you’re just trolling in which case fair enough
No, I think a 29 year old FVV is slightly better than a 23 year old KPJ that the production level is about the same - but FVV is better on D, and ball protection with KPJ being a better scorer and creator. And I see KPJ getting a lot better, and FVV not getting much better. I get that we are enamored with our new shiny object, but to me he is a safe vet - and will be here 2 years max. DD
For reference kpj’s LEBRON was -0.69 last year. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/ A different stat, same idea, RAPTOR, has Fvv at +5 and kpj at a more generous +1.3. Either way it’s not even close. There’s a reason why no one in the league would ever pay kpj $40m a year, or even $20m guaranteed, while one of the more savvy front offices in the league was trying to resign fvv for $30m plus, and one of the most analytics driven teams in the league did pay Fvv $40m, while one of the leading analytics analysts, John Hollinger, prices Fvv’s production at $47m a year.
This is incredible man, i do admire your dedication to kpj no matter how ludicrous you have to get. I still remember the brunson and even harden stuff from last summer. Never change
Love how we are comparing a 23 year old to a 29 year old......KPJ is still developing, FVV is who he is - a mid level short combo guard. And spare me the FVV $40m argument - he wasn't getting that anywhere else but here because we had to overpay to get him. And yes getting FVV was good for the team - and I do like him, I just don't love him. CX, I believe works in an agents office, probably has FVV as one of his clients.....lol DD
WE are not comparing a 23 yo fringe nba player, now sixth man, to a 29 year old all star and champion. Only you are. Most of us understand they are not even close as players and don’t need the advanced analytics to prove it. If kpj can EVER become as good as fvv that would be one of the great reclamation stories of the nba. It is not at all likely but I’m actually one of the few posters left on this site that’s still rooting for kpj, which is sad that you have me talking down on him like this because of this ridiculous comparison. Sengun is my favorite player on the team and I’m comfortable to admit even he is not close to Fvv yet, but at least has the best chance on the team to get there. (Sengun +1.43, Fvv +3.25)
Off topic but Jalen was a -3.24 his rookie year which was the 8th worst player in the entire league, min 1000 minutes. Last year he was a -1.05, which is still not good but quite a jump, good to see the positive direction. Let’s not talk about where Mobley is at (it’s higher than Sengun)
Another funny one is him wanting to start kpj over jalen because kpj last year (in his 4th year) was better then jalen in his 2nd. Obviously (at least I would assume) everyone can agree 23 year old jalen will be better then 23 year old kpj (as jalen has been better every matching season) but different rules depending on the narrative at the moment
I just hope that getting kpj out of a position that was not helping the team nor himself (besides making him a better passer down the line in a SG capacity) and will result in FVV/Amen/Green/KPJ >>>> KPJ/Nix/Green/Christopher. looking at it individually FVV > KPJ (ball handler, decision maker, vet calming presence) Amen > Nix Green > Green (more experience, FVV should help him at least to some extent) KPJ > Josh Christopher (better overall player, willing to pass more often, better off ball shooter)
Lol if his playmaking is A+ then the likes of CP3, Harden, Halliburton, Jokic must be A++++++++ Infinity. He is probably a second tier playmaker as his career began as a bench 3 pt goon and not facilitator. His finishing is B+ for his miniature size and arm length. He has burst. Master thief though. His shooting percentages have dropped the last year.
You're vastly underrating FVV's passing. He's a borderline top 10 guy in the league as a playmaker. He is not a combo guard, he is as much of a legitimate point guard as you're going to find in today's league. He just also takes a lot of three pointers because that's today's game for you. I would say he actually is pretty similar to Lowry. Both true point guards, both high-volume three point shooters, both strong, tenacious defenders who make up for their lack of height by being built like tanks. The main differences: In his prime, Lowry finished better around the hoop by being more of a wrecking ball down low, while that same playstyle caused him to turn the ball over more often than FVV does. FVV shoots even more three pointers than Lowry did. As passers, they are very, very similar.
KPJ should aim to be Amen with a shot and less athleticism and lower IQ. He should be listed at 6'5-6'6.
Don't you see it more as going from: KPJ/Sengun/Nix to FVV/Sengun/Amen Man, our playmaking is going to be SO good. I especially love that FVV/Sengun/Amen are all different sizes and can be played in pairs. It means we can have two of them on the floor at all times with different playmaking skills. Amen can collapse the defense with his penetration and excellent in transition. FVV is just a floor general who is usually a good shooter. Sengun is high/low post playmaking. It's really unique for a team to have good passing at 6'1, 6'7 and 6'11. Along with Udoka's mindset of extremely unselfish basketball, we have the ingredients for a very special team. Green will get time on the ball but I think he's not going to be forced into iso as often as before. The offense is going to gift him a few easier shots per game. I think we'll see his off ball scoring increase even if he gets significant usage. I'm happy with that. His handle was not tight enough for the amount of time he handled the ball the past two seasons. Getting him off ball a little will also preserve some energy for defense. KPJ is just a good piece to have, he can be an excellent 6th man with Amen running the show. Maybe Sengun or FVV get some minutes with that unit as well. KPJ just needs to focus on defense + catch and shoot, he can have his best season even if coming off the bench.
