WTF what does Jeremy have to do to get back on track! Never expected him to hit .300 or .280 but this is ridiculous. He should be better at hunting the pitches he likes. Still a sophomore so I won't make that big a deal that he did nothing tonight! Excited about the Abreu homer.
Same lineup except reverse order. It would suck Tucker batting 7th, but the rest of the first 4 hitters would be better.
Jeremy OPS by month, ranked best to worst 2022 2023 872 763 768 722 728 694 667 595 528 426 The 426 is so far in July in just 39 at bats so it can rise quickly So basically what he hasn't had is that ONE big month yet. We also haven't had our full lineup yet but fingers crossed it happens in the next week or so. Baseball is such a long season, and fans are so emotional about what happens on a daily basis Also for Jeremy last year vs LHP .822 this year .770, vs RHP last year .676 this year .632, and again if he has ONE big month, which is what he did last year, all of the sudden his numbers look the same The only consistent thing on him, and this will both a few people but whatever...last year batting 2nd .837, this year batting 2nd .824, and yes his numbers with Tucker behind him are significantly better than Pena anywhere else in the lineup, I looked it up a few days ago and posted Many people also love to rip on Bregman, I guess if he isn't 2019 Bregman he isn't good enough for some...Bregman is on pace to drive in 100 runs What this offense needs is simple, HEALTH. Get Altuve and Yordan back, together, for an extended period and the offense is as good as any
Part of the problem is the health. With Altuve and Yordan healthy, a 95 wRC+ Pena is a very valuable player. Without them, fans start looking at stats and results and see him not hitting and complain. When Pena can be the 7th or 8th best hitter on a team, that team wins. When he has to be the 5th or 6th best that team struggles. He also struggles mightily vs RHP. The team doesn't have enough good bats vs RHP to cover for him. It's the opposite of Bregman, who is terrible vs LHP but everyone else is great so the team still wins and scores runs. That's another reason why bringing in a bat that mashes RHP and can replace Julks/ Meyers in the lineup is so crucial.
On Bregman, yes he has been terrible vs LHP THIS YEAR But he also has .703, .839, .985 and 1.185 OPS lines against LHP in the years leading up to this one. Bregman has all of 102 at bats vs LHP this year, he will be fine when all is said and done
Look at the numbers you posted .703 in 2022 .839 in 2021 .985 in 2020 1.185 in 2019 Huge downward trend. Drop of over 100 pts each and every year 4 years in a row now. That's not small sample. Can you tell me you expect him to finish 2023 Above. 700? Or even Above. 650? .730 is current MLB average.
We are bringing in Yordon and Altuve. No need for a bat, both can hit RHP. Pena is fine and his clutchness will click in if we can get there. We should spend big on a TOR pitcher. If you get that and everyone gets healthy (not including Brantley) we will be fine, but we need to gain a couple of games at least on the Rangers over the next two series, although we could win from the wild card spot as well.
You are right Yordan and Altuve hit RHP very well. But that still leaves: Julks, Meyers, Pena, Dubon, and Maldy that are below league average. It's criminal to have a LF that is below average with the bat. Hitting is the only thing a LF needs to do besides occassionally catch a ball and lob a throw to the infield. But there is an opportunity to improve the ball club vs 83% of starting pitchers on TB, Bal, NYY, Min, Tex, and Bos. All you need to do is NOT start either Meyers or Julks vs RHP. There are literally dozens of potential bats on the market in all different price ranges that would accomplish this.
Yes, I sure do When you are at 100 at bats those numbers can change drastically, and quickly I’ll take a career worth over 100 for a guy his age Everyone around him getting healthy will help a lot
Against a RHP, most of these guys wouldn't be in the lineup. Dubon would be on the bench for Altuve. Chas would be in CF. Yordan would be in LF. Diaz would be at DH. Maldy and Pena would be your 8/9 hitters in the healthy lineup.
You're just listing the optimal lineup. That doesn't mean that's who Dusty will play. My guess is that Yordan does not play LF more than 25% the rest of the season, and Diaz would very likely be on the bench more often than not. That would leave you Julks/Meyers, Pena, and Maldy vs a RHSP.
Sorry - I was thinking playoff lineup, where Dusty does play his optimal lineups. It's the same crew he had last year except Abreu instead of Yuli, and a Chas that can hit RHP. There's no point in making a trade if it's not going to improve the postseason lineup. And if you're arguing Dusty won't play the right guys anyway, then a trade doesn't matter regardless.
I hope you are right about the playoffs. But I'm talking about the best lineups to actually have the best shot to get into the playoffs. Brown and Dusty both know what I know which is why Madris is on this team and why he has started 5 games. He is the best they had vs RHP in the minors. But Madris can not remain the best option. Maybe Gilbert is brought up if they don't make a trade. He is .840 vs RHP and .640 vs LHP.
Astros need to shave off 1 game of the division deficit this weekend. Then beat the Rangers 2 out of 3 and get it back down to just 2 games.
Gurriel vs Abreu I've projected Gurriel's stats as though he has the same number of ABs as Abreu. Abreu 33 R 8 HR 50 RBI Gurriel 37 R 5 HR 31 RBI
