There is no doubt he has become inconsistent but his hot streaks are "player of the month" level, his game is very well rounded, even when not hitting he is a net positive player, and his overall numbers still end up among league leaders at his position.

Thinking he is not getting paid is either simply not understanding how contracts work in MLB or wishful thinking. 6 yrs / $150M is absolute floor and represents the hometown discount.

That's a Homer response. Witt is better

Well let's start by have u looked at how far the Royals minor leaguers are to even make them compete?
Royals are a disaster. The only personnel moving on that team is Perez.
So you tell me why none of them would be available?
They need talent in the MLB level. JULKS out the gate makes them better

2 for 36 and a mutual option for a third is what we will offer.

Speaking of the Royals, I know his numbers look oogly, and he's old, but as a rental inning eater that has familiarity with this team and a guy looking for a ring, anybody think Grienke would accept a trade back here? I figure the cost would be cheap.

Anything short of winning the World Series with that trade and the Astros would regret it.

Gilbert is likely to be in the 50ish or so range - and those players typically are packaged with another prospect or two for a star player under team control or at least a start "WAR" player.

There are plenty of other sites that support Witt Jr is better overall.

No, at this point Greinke is no better than France/Urquidy/Bielak/Blanco/Dubin/Arrighetti.

Also Piccollo the manager has said no one of the Royals is untradeable.

    What?

Jesus.... even Mark Canha got 27 million over two years and he is no where near the player Bregman is.

Alex isn't the same now that the ball isn't juiced - but he had 5 WAR last year, and is on pace for 3.5 WAR this season - and if I were a betting man, he gets up to 4 WAR.

2/36 is going to be middle inning reliever money.

I think he was predicting Neris' offer.

Looks sound, but how many RBIs and Runs scored did they have in how many games?

18 mil for Neris?? Whatever he's spewing (for Bregman or Neris) he's WAY off base.

Pena has missed 11 games this year Witt has missed 2.

Pena played 136g last year Witt played 150

Pena is on pace for 73 r and 55 rbi
Witt is on pace for 83 r and 84 rbi

Pena had 72 r and 63 rbi last year
Witt had 82 r and 80 rbi last year.

    Anything else?

I like Gilbert, I think he's a fun player, with a pretty good shot at being a solid hitter in the majors. I'm not sure most teams are going to see him as top 50 ish prospect. Even in the month that Gilbert has been healthy, he's only been like an average hitter at AA. That's fairly impressive for a first full season, but it's not like an OF version of Bregman or anything. The Cubs top prospect is a LHH CF, also in AA, who is younger than Gilbert, a better defender, and is currently hitting better overall. Happ and Suzuki are locked in through 2026. Ultimately, I think there's a lot of reasons for teams such as the Cubs to round down a bit on Gilbert. I'm sure they'd take him, especially for a rental, but they're probably not going out of their way to make a Gilbert trade happen.

I don't know what to expect with Brown being in his first year at the helm. I think the players who have the greatest combination of expendability and value are Meyers and like Melton/Loperfido/Dezenzo. I'd be most hesitant to part with Clifford and Baez.

My gut feeling has the Astros ending up doing something like Meyers to Det for a rental starter and lesser piece with more control.

That argument makes them even LESS likely to trade Witt and Melendez, who are both controllable for 4 more years
