Hopefully, voters will remember this when they have a chance to vote for folks that better represent their interests...

Tax dollars should absolutely not be paying for anyone's medication. I am surprised to see you opposing government funded healthcare though.

Exactly, viagra is in no way "health care" anymore than breast augmentation or botox for wrinkles.

I think most doctors would disagree with you. Breast augmentation and botox are cosmetic procedures. Viagra deals with sexual function. They are not at all the same. Hair transplants or calf implants would be the proper analogy to botox or breast augmentation. Viagra is more akin to Osphena.

Tearfully testifying against Texas’ abortion ban, three women describe medical care delayed

The women, believed to be the first to testify about an abortion ban’s impact on their pregnancy since 1973, are seeking to clarify when a medical emergency justifies an abortion.

BY ELEANOR KLIBANOFF AND REBECCA SCHNEIDJULY 19, 2023UPDATED: 3 HOURS AGO

One woman could barely get words out through her tears. Another ran to the restroom as soon as she was done, wordless, wretched sobs wracking her tiny body. A third threw up on the witness stand.

These are believed to be the first women in the country since 1973 to testify in court about the impacts of a state abortion ban on their pregnancies. They almost certainly won’t be the last.

Speaking to a packed Travis County courtroom Wednesday, three women detailed devastating pregnancy losses and said medically necessary care was delayed or denied due to their doctors’ confusion over Texas’ abortion laws.

They’re challenging a clause in the state’s abortion ban that says a doctor can perform an abortion only if they believe the patient has “a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy” that puts the patient “at risk of death or poses a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function.”

Doctors have reported delaying necessary pregnancy care for fear of violating the law, which allows doctors to be punished by up to 99 years in prison, a $100,000 fine and the loss of their medical license. The lawsuit, brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights, asks a judge to temporarily block the law from applying to medically necessary abortions and ultimately clarify when a medical emergency justifies an abortion.

JAMA says there were 10,000 more live births due to the abortion ban. So, with the increase of 227 infant deaths, net it has saved 9,773 babies.

Which may be true, thought unknown what number were considered for abortions.

the other impacts on health of the mothers, the economic impact on mother/family isn’t known yet either.

Amazing. I can't wait to see the budget for taking care of all of the unwanted children. I love kids, but some people don't.

I guess the budget will eventually go to increasing prison space run by private corporations needed for the thousands of adults with traumatic childhoods that ended up committing crimes and going to jail.

When a pregnancy is aborted in the first trimester, it is not the death of an infant, it's the death of reproducing cells that have no viability of life outside their host.

You and your "Pro-life" cohorts don't care about babies.... it's all about control. Prove me wrong. Support free public education all the way through college , social services for all but especially for women with children and free health care for all... All things that would truly support the position of "pro-life"

But you won't and I won't be holding my breath.

You're not pro-life, you're pro-government control over all else. Such a cuck for big government.

NPR reported, including the defense argument that the plaintiffs have no standing (read state arguments below), and the blame lies with the doctors for not taking action, rather than with the state (which threatens doctors with up to life imprisonment for performing abortions). If this sounds inhuman, that’s because it is.

    https://www.npr.org/sections/health...ancy-she-tells-texas-court-there-was-no-mercy

Casiano described what it was like to give birth to the daughter they named Halo. "She was gasping for air," Casiano said. "I just kept telling myself and my baby that I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. I felt so bad. She had no mercy. There was no mercy there for her."

People in the courtroom wept as Casiano spoke, including an attorney for the state of Texas.

The other women with complicated pregnancies who testified were Amanda Zurawski and Ashley Brandt. Both cried on the stand as they described extremely intimate details of their health and their ordeals losing wanted pregnancies.

Brandt was able to travel out of Texas to receive a selective reduction for a twin whose skull had not developed properly. Zurawski's water broke too early, but she was denied induction or abortion. She went into septic shock and was in the intensive care unit for three days.

Molly Duane, the attorney for the Center for Reproductive Rights, attacked the defendant's arguments, laid out in a court filing in June, that none of the patient plaintiffs have the right to sue the state — the legal concept known as standing. In the document, the state argued that the women's past harm is the fault of the their doctors and their future harm — such as damage to their reproductive health — is hypothetical.
