At the @Behad hoops invitational and bbq cookout about 20 years ago...I got baked with a couple of buddies from the bbs. We're playing full court, 1st game, and my 2nd trip up and down I get the headrush...then it goes away...and I proceed to play one of the best pickup games I've played. 3-3 on 3's, one crazy nice assist to my buddy who was also baked (I knew he was LH so from the top of the key I gave him the head nod to go to my left where he could simultaneously reach up, catch and turn left into his shot. Net. Funniest thing to me was on the last play, I've got the ball at the top of the key after a foul or OOB...I'm about 3 ft behind the line, and I check the ball, get it back, and say "**** it"...net. Everybody starts walking off as I'm backpedaling, so I say "what's up" and they say "that was ballgame". I had no idea what the score was or I wouldn't have done it. I tried to get a replay but there were others who wanted next game.
France/Bielak: 25 GS*, 142.2 IP, 3.43 ERA Blanco gets some props here too, just for being the guy who toed the rubber when needed and didn't make a disaster of things. Bielak's pitched like ass in 3 games, and the Stros have been shutout in 2 of them so whatever, 6-6 overall in starts France has pitched like ass in 3 games, and the Astros have scored 7-5-7 runs (2-1 team record) 7-6 overall in starts *I'm counting Bielak's 1st game in relief of Garcia in the 1st inning
Omar Lopez is Amazing and many of the Coaches, Trainers, Staff, Players. If somebody is down on themselves, Someone will always help you in tips, watching video, adjustment. This is a Team. Very Caring about each other. Exactly why so many Young Latin Players want to sign with the Astros, even if it is Lower Amount than other Teams. Players want to be cared, trained in Gym, eat properly. The Academy and Minor Leagues is Amazing.
That was a very "in front of the scenes" moment that usually happens "behind the scenes", and it's a reason why I get a bit perturbed when internet people start talking about "fire the coaches, fire the trainers, fire everybody" "what do they even do?". Julks 100% needs to be in the lineup tomorrow somewhere, you don't let him dwell on it. ETA, now that I just looked at it again, I run that same lineup back again tomorrow.
Good body lauguange from Julks laughing it off, getting that shoulder rub. I also want to see him in tomorrow.
FYI: they're throwing the Sears Catalog at us tomorrow night, and the SOB did well against us once so far this year
At least he didn't break a bone beating up a cooler/wall/phone/whatever like Seattle's Kelenic (or our Maton)
We get in our own heads more often then not. I think all of us weekend warriors feel like we’ve had that Jordan flu game but yet it was for nothing of any significance. Good times though…..
Had a great grandfather that when I was a wee lad would tell the story of hating the change from thin black and white to a glossy color catalog…if you know you know
Nope, literally my brain went a bit "waaabaaawaaaabaaa" for one trip up the court and once I ran a bit, then it was done. It was also the first time I tried to play a sport other than adult softball high as hell.
If not for the A's, the Astros would pretty much be the Yankees (scuffling .500 team with a star out). May the Astros win out over the A's.
Uhhhhhh, I don't think so ETA, just looked it up: Rangers: 5-2 vs Oak (5-1 vs KC) Astros: 7-0, 0-0 KC Long story short, I don't know who you are but let's do some more research next time, aight?
The clubhouse culture is something every player and coach/front office guy has mentioned about the Astros. That is why a lot of the foreign guys want to sign with us. They all talk and they all see guys that weren't hyped, developed, and become stars in the big leagues. Framber, Javier, Garcia, Altuve, Alvarez were looked over when signed, and they are stars on the best team over the last decade. That is why Brantley stayed when he had a bigger offer in Toronto. That is why Verlander gave us the right to first refusal. Gurriel wanted to stay, Correa wanted to stay.
Astros win 7-2 today. Framber goes a very efficient 7 innings throwing 90 pitches. Martinez and Kuhnel finish it up. Abreu, Tucker, and Julks Homer. Alex somehow managers to get a hit off of a LHP. Nobody gets hurt.
No doubt, homie. A's broadcast team talked to Maldy about Diaz. Broadcaster: "Martin grabbed my shoulder, looked at me and said Papi, he's going to be good." Flashback to last week, where the 790 pregame show had an interview with Lee, Why? I don't know but Lee brought up Maldonado's preparation helping him in in every day life.
