So assuming his 4th year TO doesn't get picked up, he'll be short like $0.4m. Who knows how his NBA stint could help his future earnings but for now, it looks like it wasn't the best decision at least from financial perspective to try his luck at NBA.

    maybe you misread.
    • He will make $7.4m from the NBA, at least
    • His Madrid buyout was ~$3.5m
    • The Rockets could have contributed to that buyout up to $750k. I'm not sure if they did.
So, he is up like $4m, even without the 4th year TO. And up ~$4.75m if the Rockets assisted him with the buyout, which teams usually do.

I don't believe the Rockets can claim him off waivers if he is cut - which means every other team gets a crack at him first.

I think someone said earlier they can claim him off waivers because he is no longer on the team we originally traded him to....but again do we really want a guy who we shipped off and two other teams have since passed on? Who is really interested in a guy who after two yeas is still at least two years away?

I'm not sure about that - I think it's more about a time window than the number of times a player gets traded.

He will be out of the league by seasons end.

OKC has a team option for next season and they won't exercise that option - he'll be back in Europe or some other league.

He's a defensive-minded backup 4 who needs to play alongside a range shooting, shot blocking 5. So yeah, maybe 8 minutes a night off the bench for the Bucks would work.

Technically speaking, he was our best shooter last season!

I like him. Was injured his rookie year a lot, but in his second year showed improvement. Was really good for Spain in the Euro. I think he is a smart player and projects as an impactful role player on a contender.

only ‘argument’ is that this (NBA value) coaching staff knows nada about him (from ‘inside’ practices etc).

I'm pretty sure the Rockets can resign him since he was traded more than once, but we don't have a spot for him and he doesn't fit the Rockets swing for the fences hunt for stars strategy. Garuba could be a good role player or a great fit in the right system, but he was never given a role or system. Seems like a good dude, has an NBA skillset, but not the feel for the game yet. I think he should get a g-league spot with his son Siddiq.

    I want Uzi back!
He’ll be superb in Udoka’s schemes utilized as a disruptor since the coach is defensive-minded
But then again Udoka probably told Stone to trade him

Oh you meant the 4th year TO is IN ADDITION to the 7.4M. I misunderstood thinking 7.4M includes 4th year team option that could be declined.

I think we need another big, but I don't think Garuba is the guy they need.

I don't get why so many think Garuba can't play in the NBA.

I don't know if his shot is legit or not, but Garuba was never thought to be a paint roaming rim protector. He was always best suited in a switching defense with the ability to guard 1-5 at a high level.

Garuba is bigger, longer and more athletic than PJ tucker. He's already a good passer. He never has to be a guy that can get buckets on his own. If he can consistently shoot in the mid 30's from three and if he reaches his defensive ceiling he will definitely have a place in the NBA.

So we spent future draft capital to jettison him - but wondering if we can re-sign him?

imo, it's more accurate to say we bought $2.9m of cap room.
