For the Astros, yes indeed that would work I think the White Sox have a say in the deal also though? Maybe someone can confirm?
How reasonable is this? To White Sox: Drew Gilbert Spencer Arrighetti Shay Whitcomb Korey Lee To Astros: Dylan Cease To Nationals: Brandon Bielak Rafael Montero To Astros: Jeimer Candelario Patrick Corbin 2B Altuve SS Pena 3B Bregman LF Alvarez RF Tucker 1B Abreu C Diaz CF McCormick DH Candelario/Dubon Candelario and Dubon have complimentary splits and both play multiple infield positions. Candelario hits righties better so he sees more time. Bench: Maldonado Dubon/Candelario Julks Meyers Kessinger Rotation - 6 man Valdez Cease Javier Brown Urquidy France Bullpen: Pressly Abreu Stanek Neris Maton Corbin (lefty specialist) I think they put Brown and France in pen for playoffs.... Astros still keep Barber, Melton, and Hamilton in pipeline in case Tucker goes way of Springer...
You all keep ignoring the fact that we already have a left fielder his name is Alvarez. He is one of the most productive bats in the league. Before you nominate him to the DH position we already have one of those too. His name is Diaz, a great bat in his own right. Before you nominate him to be the catcher we also have one of them, his name is Maldonado and he ain't going anywhere as long as this team is managed by Dusty Baker. If you want to operate in a fantasy world where fans get to decide who the starting catcher is knock yourself out. It just seems like an exercise in futility to me.
My current best guess: Robert and Cease to Astros Meyers, L.Garcia, France, Gilbert, Leon, Whitley. 1) Chi needs CF to replace Robert 2) Chi losing 3 SP in FA + now Cease. Will need at least 2 SP back to make this work. 3) Chi loves and scouts Cuban players extensively.
Yordan has been in LF 30.4% of his games in his career and 38.6% this year before his injury. He is not suddenly going to start even half the games in LF much less everyday.
I would have to think about this deal, But in the end I would probably do this deal. I guess this would probably come down to how good I thought Arrighetti will be and if Garcia can get better after coming off of TJ. You've gotta give up appt to get a true ace.

I am not here to get into an argument, and I have enjoyed reading your prospects info in the past, but I think you keep on ignoring how the Astros have actually used Yordan: 2019 DH - 74 starts LF - 9 starts (only 4 CG) 2020 Was injured pretty much all year 2021 DH - 97 starts LF - 39 starts (only 20 CG) 2022 DH - 77 starts LF - 56 starts (only 44 CG) 2023 DH - 35 starts LF - 22 starts (20 CG) So, while it's obvious that it's trending in the direction that Alvarez plays more in LF each year, he is still playing more at DH. That doesn't scream that the Astros themselves fully think of Alvarez as their 100% LF starter.
I am not forgetting anything. Alvarez can DH and fill in on the field when someone needs a break in the outfield. As for Diaz, he is a rookie - and he will be the catcher next year or his value is wasted. Martin Maldonado is not going to be the Astros starting catcher next year - nor will be start every playoff game. Also - this is a fantasy site, neither you nor I are a GM. I am fortunate enough to be friends with some people that work in baseball - but I have no influence over what the Astros do - nor do you, Indeed, I have said several times that I do not believe the White Sox will ultimately trade Robert and Cease....... but it is factually true that the Astros have had interest in both of them this year - but that doesn't mean a deal will happen.
He never had any competition for the DH spot before. Every day is different and it's different every day.
Getting into an argument is how we learn. Please do not confuse argument with a fight. I have no desire to fight with you or anyone else. I enjoy the interaction and kinship we get here while we share our interest in the Astros and If I offend you or anyone I sincerely apologize.
My thinking is if they pair up Dubon and a bat at the deadline for DH... Play Dubon in left and DH Yordan against lefties. Against righties, Dubon on bench, Yordan in left, acquisition at DH
We need Cease more than Robert, but I would take both of the asking price isn't a MVP candidate type player and we don't have to pay them 30 million a year. The may as well give us the Gravemen rental if we are giving them all that.
If they don't get an all-star level OF w/ years of control I hope and pray they do not trade Gilbert. I realize he is just a prospect and all prospects are subject to busting but Gilbert is head and shoulders a better prospect than any other OF in the system (at this point- Baez and Gomez still have time). Looking to Barber, Melton and Hamilton to fill his shoes as a starting OF would be very very deflating. Furthermore, the White Sox are losing 3/5 of their rotation in FA. This would make 4/5. No way they trade Cease without at least 2 members of their 2024 rotation coming back in the deal.
Dubon's bat is a negative. His plus defense in the infield makes him a net positive player. In LF, his defense is not nearly as good and his bad hitting makes him a net negative player.
