I'm kind of amazed that Osuna is now 3 years removed from his last time in the majors. Assuming injuries are past him, the guy was in his mid 20s, with a WHIP of 0.9 with experience as a late game / leverage reliever. I just looked him up and saw he's pitching in Japan -- I figured someone would take a chance on him, much like Chapman managed to keep a job.

I absolutely do not want to trade Chas.

In my opinion there is no player out there that improves the team enough to justify the loss.

As for Bellinger's defense in CF, there are mixed opinions. (Cf stats only)

baseball savant has: 4 oats above average 13th out of 36 CF w/ at least 75 attempts. FWIW: Meyers is 5th w/ 7, Chas is 24th w/ 2.

Fielding Bible has: -2 defensive runs saved, which is 28th out of 34 CF w/ at least 250 innings. FWIW: Meyers is 7th, Chas is 10th.

I’d be content with Stroman as the BIGGEST deadline addition. Astros better get a bat (and a LH bat at that) for insurance with the amount of injuries we’ve had. Our bullpen is atrocious with Montero and Stanek having down years and a slew of unprovens at the backend..gotta get atleast one high leverage guy.

I'd do it in an instant. I just think the Cubs are going to get a lot more. Of course have no idea how the Cubs value any of our guys, but I think somebody is going to give up a lot for Bellinger.

This isn’t the first time they have done this either. They tried to do it with Darvish as well.

You are right that Chas' arm hasn't hurt the team worse than "Meyers' crap arm" but it is even worse. They are both terrible.

That's why I am not suggesting Meyers replace Chas.

Chas is absolutely the best option for CF on the roster currently.

Chas is a better LF than CF.

The team would be better off if Chas could be in LF because there was a better CF on the team.

All these things can be and are true.

I'd sign him again, but maybe there is something pretty horrific out there that the public just isn't aware of. Really only the controversy caused by Taubman and the team's terrible actions in the immediate aftermath could explain why he's treated worse, and that wasn't his fault.

The Cardinals and White Sox are each losing 3 of 5 starting pitchers this year.

As part of a package, I could see Whitley possibly having some value to them.

What? I have no problem with his play in the field, but I, literally, have never heard him called "the best left fielder in the game"

He has a great and accurate arm, but his overall fielding metrics leave much to be desired.

except that we have a left fielder. So you are saying chas should go to the bench or DH if we get a “better” CF. Again, Dusty isn’t gonna make Yordan the full time DH. Also, Dusty and most managers prefer the DH to be a spot to rotate players in and out of, rather than have a full time DH only type player. So, I’d rather give Chas a consistent role on this team, finally.

Also it should provide consistency for Yordan in left too. Use the DH as a flex spot because, although ideal for us defensively, Dusty isn’t going with Altuve as the full time DH. He wouldn’t do that to Altuve or Yordan.

Trade Drew Gilbert for the right player, he is hitting less than Jake Meyers. 3 HRs in 2 months, better trade him when he is recognized, or he becomes Derek Fisher (baseball) clone.

    He's playing injured.

None of us know why they keep playing him, but they do.

I don't get people treating Alvarez as an everyday left fielder. He has a strong arm, but his fielding is mediocre on a good day.

Bellinger should not be in the conversation (even if we picked him up for free). He brings nothing new to this team except name only.

Chas has won me over recently as well, but it's kind of like ready to sell a stock and it suddenly starts rising. You kinda want to see how high it goes but know eventually you'll have to pull the trigger before it dips.

Depends on how much you buy his turnaround this season. He's on a tear over the last 3 weeks. He was really struggling before that sandwiched around a DL stint.

The incident in the hotel was really bad- I think the fear is the pictures getting out, which are supposed to be terrible.

Supposedly Osuna also had temper issues outside of domestic abuse.

Bauer and Osuna are persona non grata but some how Chapman gets to skate relatively free.

For the season overall he has been pretty good. 130 OPS+ and nearly a .900 OPS…. He also has power, is a good athlete and can play any outfield spot and 1st.

He helps the Astros line up… he can even play 1st and Abreu DH when Alvarez wants to play left…
    Altuve/Abreu/Alvarez/Tucker/McCormick/Bregman/Bellinger is a really good top 7 hitters on a team…

    Astros get:
    SP Aaron Civale
    1B/DH Josh Bell
    RHP Tommy Mace
    RHP Tanner Burns

    Guardians get:
    OF Chas McCormick

Astros get a lefty bat, a solid MoR SP with a couple years more control, and 2 fringey P prospects. Guardians get a good OF with control.

Civale hasn’t been great or pitched a ton of innings prior to this season, but he has a sterling era this year and has been a consistently above average SP. Bell is a buy low candidate who doesn’t have any surplus value; trading for him means Alvarez plays LF most days, but obviously he has upside. The 2 pitching prospects are former high draft picks who haven’t panned out but haven’t busted yet.

McCormick would arguably be the Guardians 2nd best hitter.

Edit: It is probably easier to argue this is a bad deal for Houston than it is for Cleveland. So it may be closer if Cleveland throws in some money to cover Bell’s contract (complicated because he has an opt out) or throws in a better prospect than the 2 I listed.

I'll guess Chapman was fortunate to barely beat the #MeToo Movement. Or maybe it just pays to be a Yankee, given German's ability to stick around too.
