Please don’t tell me it’s too short Tate or almost 40 Green…..with all these millions of dollars can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed. Wasn’t a huge Garuba fan, but at least he could backup Jabrari and could be a third string center.
Tari Eason will be a perfect backup 4, especially when we are running Jabari at the 5 for a small ball lineup.
It's definitely going to be Jeff Green and Tari Eason. Tate will help too. It's fine, I expect Jabari to get a lot of minutes next season so there's only like 16-18 minutes remaining at backup. They can handle that.
Depth Chart w/ Minutes FVV(30)/Amen(18) Green(30)/KPJ(18) Brooks(24)/KPJ(12)/Amen(12) Jabari(12)/Tari(30)/Brooks(6) Sengun(30)/Jabari(18) (Top 8 players) FVV, Green, Brooks, Jabari, Sengun, Tari, KPJ, and Amen all get 30 minutes per game in this scenario. Holiday gets his minutes on FVV, Green, & KPJ rest days. Jock gets his minutes on Sengun rest days. Tate and Jeff gets their minutes on Brooks, Jabari, & Tari rest days.
Jabari Smith - Tari Eason - Alpren Sengun - Jock Landale….. that is going to be basically all of your 3-5 minutes, except when the Rockets run 3 guard sets with KPJ some at the 3 or possibly Thompson at the 3 for defensive purposes. Defensively, long term the Rockets will be above average at the 3/4 with Smith and Eason (as long as Udoka lets Eason free lance)…. I will be watching to see if the Rockets will be good enough defensively at the 5 long term with Sengun or if they will need to shift Sengun to the 4 and get a long defensive oriented 5.
I have Jock in there when Sengun get rest days. Cam could be in the mix. I think he'll be in the GLeague, mostly. Would have been great if we never signed Brooks at all. Could've opened up minutes for Cam and Tate at the 3. Oh well...
Cam is small for the 3, but he can defend most of them- but when Cam is on the floor, it will likely be with basic 3 guard sets…. But Cam and Thompson probably start the year out of the rotation until they work their way in. Honestly- Cam to me looks like a classic prototype for a shooting guard… when he stands next to Thompson he is noticeably shorter, lesser wingspan - but good height and strength as a SG, also nimble and explosive enough for the 2 and has high upside as a scorer.
It will be something if Cam displaces Jalen Green as the future Starting SG. Green is an explosive type player, but Cam brings some serious offense with his elite defensive chops. Not saying it’s going to happen, I’m just saying potentially a scenario. And I am a big Jalen Green fan, but I am intrigued by the intense and interesting competition within the team.
